Ok, sorry for the double post, but I have a new problem...

Post your vmts and tell me where you put your vmt and vmf files (eg c;programfiles/blahblah)

Heh, I got it working. I used VTFEdit to make the vtf, and then the vmt. Then I moved both files the the hl2 materials folder, which messed up the folder/name part of the vmt.

Thought that was the problem anyway because I tend to do that too, I'll create a vmt that gives the wrong location of the vmf.

my .vmt file says its a text document in my custom material folder.

"LightmappedGeneric"
{
"$basetexture" "hps/test1"
"$surfaceprop" "metal"
}

I saved it as "all files" and with the name test1.vmt in notepad. But when I go to the folder, it says test1.vmt then underneath it says text file and not .vmt file like all the others.

When I load up hammer and do a search in the textures for test1, nothing comes up. is this why?

I have made by this tutorial water texture from this image. And in game he looks as simple...and after it the purse to go but to not float... screen
Why so ? That it is necessary to make ?

Water textures are alot more complicated. They have more parts than just a simple texture. I suggest you read this tutorial:

Hey! i need help PLEASE! when using something like light_environment i get no reflections. and i think this is caused by the textures. please help? do i have to change lightgeneric or whatever or what?

how do you make transparent textures with this tool? I've gotten them to work, but they act weird as hell. For example I can't seem to "fit" a texture, and sometimes it doesn't show up at all unless I hold down "shift texture" for like 400 units. Any idea how to get it to work like a simple texture?

Does anyone know why my decals are showing up fine in-game but have a black overlay in the texture browser of hammer?
