I think a really cool map contest would be Map-a-Painting. Any painting would be allowed as long as you provide a link to the original. I think it would be really interesting to see some of the world's most famous paintings in 3d.

happy, eh?

not easy with the default HL2 textures xD

with battle 25 being "something's not right" and all creepy and scary and evil

let's go to the other extreme!

somewhere welcoming, secure, homely

like, "feels like home"

Eli's lab for example, you've been toasting nasty combine for ages, and then you get to hang around in the garden with a mechanical mutt and fit chick - it's just chilled

gotta make a map that feels nice

Even though I have a brilliant idea for that theme, it would be difficult to make a map that makes you think about robots, robots would be more of a team for model competition...

I think we should push the theme to the style point where everyone think we're mentally disturbed.

That or water theme. :)

I got used to getting 0 votes, usually it are always the best entries that stand out that get all the votes, so the other entries which are good but not AS good as the one that get the most votes just get none :(

I have an idea, some might find it dumb, some might call it cool.

How about a "Custom theme" where people team up, texture artists, modelers, mappers, and (sorta new) particle artists. to create something beautiful and new. sort of branch out of the norm, and create a new style all together.

For the next map battle I would like to see maps that inspire a sense of "awe" in us.

For example,

This image can blow you away at it's massive scale and art style. It inspires a sense of awe.

*crosses fingers*

It also allows everyone a chance *cough*Cremator*cough*

Not a bad idea at all! :D but how will the teams get formed? it would be harder to organize as the regular battles...

Well, the teams can be random (whoever puts their name in the hat) or people could ask each other to join the team. Hmmm..... I think a good title would be "Interlopers Ulitimate Design Challenge"

That sounds fun, it could be like a 3 month challenge to see who can design the best level for a certain game, so the custom content would almost be a must.

Don't have any good map battle ideas though :/

Yes but I think it would be fair to let people use previous works (except mappers, of course) and custom content IS a must, infact anything that's NOT custom is disqualified and/or frowned apon.

The problem I see with that is that the mapping veterans can already do more or less exactly that without needing a team. So they'd either be dragged down by the inexperience of their team-mates, or do everything themselves which is more or less what they already do.

Also, custom content scares most rookies because it's extremely difficult to understand. You have to learn how to model, how to rig, how to uvmap, how to texture, how to compile, how to animate, how to edit .qc parameters. It's not an easy feat. And unless you go for a stylistic approach the outcome won't look all too spectacular.

I see your point, but I think that teams could consist of one, or one thousand. Say, if Creamator got snooty and said he didn't need anyone else, he could go it alone and embarrass large teams or maybe himself.

My lord. I just noticed something. This may be something Cremator can LOSE at.... we NEED to do this... we NEED to.
