lose the -torn and you could have a nice theme...

just WAR could have a wide varia of screens... trough out history they all looked different or you could do a just before tension or an after disaster, a war room, a chaotic battlefield, a warrior, a training camp, a castle, a nuclear base, a foggy field in the morning with opposing forces,... the list goes on and on.

Yes please, the idea of war or battlefield sounds cool to map, but maybe we should have something more specific?

How about village theme? It has alot of potential for map battle.

"Opposite Environment" - you take a look at what the typical environment is in the game you will be mapping for, (i.e. for HL2 it is C17, for TF2 it is mainly desert environments), then you have to create an environment that you consider to be as far from these typical environments as possible, (for example, a TF2 map set in Antartica).

Modern interiors, were cleanliness is key, so people must find new and intriguing ways to detail maps, other than throwing trash around everywhere.

Good idea, except most of interlopers can't make or doesn't have access to super clean pretty textures... :(

Aren't clean textures generally easier to make than dirty ones? If we did a co-op map battle this could work.

Some hotel / pool scene would be fun to make imo. its also pretty wide theme, so it would give lots of freedom in making it.

also you could make it from valves own textures or create own easily. so textures are not limitations for it.

Weird transportation.
Stuff like walking chairs,rocket trains,battle suits and even giant flying buildings.I think that would make a really fun Map battle.There is allot you can do with the idea,and it's not very restrictive.
