Mephasto - Level Designer & Environment Artist

My name is Sauli Saarimaa and I'm a 3D Artist, currently living in Tampere, Finland.

Creating things from my imagination has always been my passion. When I was kid, I used to draw and build a lot, back then we could not afford video games, so I made my own on paper. After a while I started making simple but fun maps for my friends, using map editors. These include several racing and strategy games. I soon realised, this was what I wanted to do with my life.

Following my passion to make games, I started mapping for Half-Life 2 in 2005, becoming more focused on making games as time passed. Inspired by various music composers and the books of Stephen King, I was able to take the skills i'd learned, to start developing Joutomaa in 2007.

The textures are very meh and don't really stand out as anything amazing. This one really stands out as being particularly bad. The bottom and top parts look like they were made in Paint and it simply doesn't work well with the photo texture behind it.

I quite like the video though.

Yes, have agree with that.. its skin i used for those egyptian pilar models. I wanted to try making some pixel art in photoshop, might replace those in future.

Wow very nice video. What is the name of that song that plays once you get outside? This inspires me to map some more.

that video is more than one year old, i have made much improvements.. but i dont want to make another video cause it could spoil so much from mod, when its finished :)

its 75% ready atm and i will soon start its alpha gameplay test, so i can make final polishing before release.

song playing is Valves, you can find it with this name. music/hl1_song20.mp3 Its only song thats not custom, but i like it.. and its hard to mimic same feel it has.

Hmm, nice video. I like how stuff blows into the water at 1:02 and 1:03. Any ways.. nice atmosphere, but maybe you should have more things in the 3d sky box. But i don't know.

I may be wrong but, at the beginning of the first video during the 'scripted sequence' i believe you don't have one of the combine set to have ignore !player.

But I do like it, nice job.
