If you mean parts like molecules, then yes. Otherwise, death and destruction aren't synonymous. Death is simply the change of state from living to dead - nothing added, nothing lost.

You're lifeless, you're born, you live, you die, you're lifeless. Humans are no more than conscious elements in the world, and it's time we accepted that. The lifespan of your consciousness, or soul if you like, is a minimal period bordering on worthlessness and yet being incomparable to death as anything but nothing itself can be compared to nothing (derived from simple math, frankly). As consciousness, the existence of the mind, is the only aspect of the universe allowing for living perception it becomes the only lasting value yet still infinitely limited by the infinity of time. The positive aspect of conscious is the positive feeling and state, happiness, or fortuna, and thus fortuna must be made the goal of our existence. Furthermore, basic understanding of the universe tells us that everything is deterministic in nature, that any event is the result of the environment, that any object or being is the result of its past. Thus, not only can no man be judged with the purpose of serving justice as justice itself is an illusion, all individuals are equal and equally deserving of fortuna; any conscious being is entitled to its share of karma but also responsible for execution of the greater good; invigoration of fortuna. One must from time to time fight the ancient urges of instinct to achieve fortuna in one's own or another's behalf. In raw theory, selflessness is the perfect state of a mind, yet this leaves consciousness with no achieving of fortuna as all are guiding the lives of others rather than living their own. Thus, fortuna requires balance in the mind, choices and actions of beings and demands that they live by the rules of their psychology; until we are capable of controlling our natures we are bound to live on the edge between selflessness and egoism - giving and taking karma.
That is pretty much my perception of life and self-made purpose. It renders religion outdated and the concept of an afterlife obsolete with it.
I'm sorry, I wrote a little more than I intended, but I'd rater have too thorough than too sparse argumentation.

I'm pleased with those results. It's better than I could ever demand, but I liked the numbers better in the beginning. We had something like 60 or 70% earlier on. Still much better than the 10% percent we would have gotten if we polled the whole US populace.

That's a very subjective statement, now, isn't it? :)
I most sincerely agree, though.

EDIT:
Wow, never saw the actual poll. "All of the above"? Giggity!

If you consider reason and logic subjective. Faith is the abandonment of reason. Seems like a good breeding ground for subjectivity. Glad you agree. ;-)

Technically speaking, we are recycled to the earth. That's about it.

Yoka: I love the avatar for whatever reason.

Anyways: I think physically we return to the Earth (obviously) and may in some way be incorporated into another person, but only the ex-physical bits of us.

I think your mind/spirit/conscious just... poof. I don't think it floats away. I don't think it goes to another person/plant/animal/thing. I think it's like a computer. You hit the button and it turns off, the 1's and 0's fade away.

Don't get fucking technical on me about my computer example.

Yep, your mind / consciousness is just electrical signals occurring in the brains nerve endings which shutdown shortly after death. Everything about you, what you know, what you've experienced is lost. Scary thought but the point of life is to pass yourself on genetically and intellectually to the next generation.

Not much you can do about death just yet but its being studied and some new medicines are proving interesting, increasing lifespans in lab rats and other animals by almost two times.

Don't really believe in souls though, doesn't make any sense. Your "life force" is your body and mind not a ghost that floats around and takes control of your body.

Still impressed by how grounded the rest of you 'lopers are!

but yeah, i also believe that there is nothing after death, we cant remember anything before we were born! but there are many other reasons to explain my beliefs on this topic, probably all related to my atheist ways :-)

though I'll admit that if i do try and think of that nothingness, the total lack of thought, feeling or existence, it does give me a horrible knot in my stomach,
but tbh, all that heaven/afterlife bullcrap is just an excuse for people not wanting to own up to accepting the inevitable... its a nice fairytale yeah, who wouldnt want that? but it's highly unrealistic. honestly, i believe that you've just got to make the absolute most out of what you have in life, enjoy yourself, don't live in fear and try and do something memorable or meaningful, so that you or your work can live on through others after you are gone...

Kind of like my younger brothers friend who believes in reincarnation and that you go to heaven. I guess he would have had quite a split personality after death ^^

i dont know if anyone thinks like this but i just seen the topic. im drunk drank a half gallon of Nikolai with my girl...

but i voted nothing.. our brains are no different from our computers when you type format c:/u thats it.. when you die your brain dies your storage medium is your brain all your memories are recorded no different from when a hdd or a ssd is formatted dropped or just destroyed....

as soon as your brain executes that command thats it it will de breif you of your pointless life like the sudden flashback of everything it has recorded then boom..

after that your brain has shutdown and will no longer be processing or recording anything its like a computer with no more code to execute.

like taking the processor.. ram.. removable storage devices everything out it just hangs there till one day the power cuts off like when your brain dies your no longer able to provide your body with a source of energy.

ok when a nuclear weapon is detonated rite in front of you.. you will have no idea that you have just died so how will your brain know when to execute that command..

The way i see it just take your laptop and drop it intoi a swinning pool, or when the sun explodes and 16 hours later we see it comming and then boom, i think our lives are meaningless but god gave us a chance to change that no matter what our civilization is doomed because earth will be consumed by the great big ball of fire that brings life...

I think we need to stop worrying about the bullshyt we are told to worryu about to substain this pointless way of life we all live, and worry about the bigger picture there are 10billion to the infinite more going on out side in the universe...

we should worry about space exploration. fu** religion its outdated like last months newspaper, and how do stop all war all disagreements and just accept each other and just survive and spread how the big bang just spreads existence farther and farther into the endless void like our levels exist in these engines we design for. idk we can think therefore we can do anything but we have to deal with politics and bulshiyt.

we as all life on earth are alone no matter who you are with you are alone together because very rare things occured to this planet to create life unique like the life that exists here on this planet the things that happend to earth happen almost never to almost all planets out there.. sure theres life out there but it gets wiped out as fast as 100 bucks goes, imho we are going nowere till we all come together as one world when we all work together like the countless servers do to make the internet thats when life will be good, the internet is how we humans should work
