You know, its not the delay thats the problem.
Its the fact that they said 1 pm, so everyone made plans to have free time at 1 pm, then at 2 pm after nothing happened, we get word to hold tight...
then nothing...
then nothing...
Then its 11 pm, no demo and ive wasted my day waiting for it.
If they came out yesterday morning and said "we're experiencing significant delays, there is a possibility the demo will be pushed back 24 hours" it would have been great- ppl would have moved on with their lives and did other stuff.
Valve kept us on the edge of the seat expecting a release, and they let us down by leaving us completely in the dark.
Problem: Valve isnt putting enough resources into PR at critical moments like a release.
What they really should do is for example announce a release on the 27th, but secretly aim for a 26th release, and release early if they can. That way anything like this is avoided, and we also avoid the 0-time server load of everyone getting in the game on the same minute.
This is all very reasonable. I agree Valve should have announced the delay sooner and more overtly rather than just pushed it back covertly on the announcement. Either way I'm not sure why people expect Valve to be punctual - even the process of decryption and final patching etc on release can take forever, I'm sure many of you remember HL2's release, it took a solid 5 hours from the beginning of decryption of the preload files (release) to me getting ingame.
