Ah, sorry to presume Mayhem.

All I did is fire up ye olde Photoshoppe - separate the parts by gray levels (as you said you're already doing this). To get all the decorative parts to pop I simply messed with layer filters (specifically Inner Glow and gradient overlays). To gritty up the heightmap I overlayed the original texture (now desaturated) on top of everything at a very low opacity, while using a completely different source texture for the wallpaper itself. The rest, including the aforementioned 'awesome' look, is accomplished by throwing the heightmap into Crazybump which simply generates a very strong specular mask - it would probably look horrendous in Source.

Diffuse, Normal, & Spec

Doesn't tile too well, but that's okay for now as it's just getting a familiarity with the process of normal and spec mapping.

My monitors not dark. I have it properly adjusted. I see avatars, and videos, and webpages just fine. But half the time, all you're guys screen shots look like this:

You know you can use media center's setup to adjust your monitors brightness and contrast, yes?

Fry_'s texture render is really dark for me too but I never really notice any other dark images on this site. You should up your contrast/brightness Coder.

My monitor's properly adjusted. Everything else is easy to see. trcc's wall paper works beautifully. Granted, fry's is worse than most, but many suffer.

I'm not really missing out on anything, so I'm not gonna adjust my monitor every time I can't see a post. I thought I was being helpful by suggesting that posters should check that their monitor isn't cranked up so bright that they're accidentally posting dark images. That, to me, seems like the better solution.

P.S. I admit that most of the time I've noticed really dark shots has been in map pimpage.

I want to add more grunge and maybe decaying wallpaper. This is completely from scratch using my favorite FilterForge program... once I have a working filter created I can pop these out by the hundreds in just hours.

but you should roughen up the text a bit more. it also look new because it's so black

Banter, my only crit with either of them is the caution band around the top and bottom need to have some gagged edged. They look very clean and have an unnatural look with no transition.

2 random skies to test my ability at 512x256px sized skyboxes. (both ingame)

I'm going to start making skyboxes from where I live. I've scouted out some locations that could yield great views. I need to find a proper camera though. I might be making a thread asking for suggestions soon.
