Introduction
Field Zone is my pet project, a modification that at current I'm keeping fairly quiet about. It's not really kicking major arse at the moment with much of it WIP; maps, weapons, HUD, etc etc etc etc.
However, there is one key element that I would like to involve all of you with. The mod is very much story driven, along the lines of Dear Esther; you can play it, but if you don't look, see and understand you'll get very little out of it.
Background
This is where you, Lopers, come in. Do feel free to post these details on other sites; I may send a polite message to PlanetPhillip and Podcast 17 to drum up plenty of interest for the actual thing. There's exactly 51 pieces of specific information to gather throughout the mod; BioShock style tapes, Oblivion style books and notes; maybe pictures, slides, videos and so on. Basically, all key to the plot, all key to the penultimate chapter. You listen, read or observe.
The Competition
What I'll be doing is simple. You will be able to submit any number of entries along the above "information" lines of ANY format out of a choice of 3 specific themes; Civilian, Soldier and Scientist. Naturally, the last will involve an absolutely spoiler laden briefing, but the other two can be written/crafted/recorded etc without any mod details ruining it for you.
You submit an entry based upon the Field Zone universe, which will be detailed within the competition post. It could be a word document about a housewife's struggle with her deformed child, a soldier's worries about the increasing Lock Zone activity or a scientist's exploration into his subjects; demented or otherwise. Maybe a Photoshopped picture of the same, perhaps an audio log in the form of a .wav file. It's all very much awesome.
I will add one very interesting note; the city in the mod was abandoned in 1980, but during the 7 Hour War there were excursion teams sent to the site. Yup, this is set within the HL2 universe, around 8 years before HL2. I'll save other details.
The winner/participants reward
So why bother? Well, every piece that gets in will be fully credited - both in credit and in-mod. What's more, one or two particularly good entries will recieve a Steam game of thier choice under £15, or a copy of the Orange Box to be gifted to an account of thier choice.
I hope this generates some interest. It's a chance to really play with your creativity. All entries will naturally be bound by rules but for now I'm just curious as to how many of you would enter.
Feel free to ask questions.
