Speed Challenge 30 - Crew-operated Weaponry

Postby RawMeat3000 on Sun Jul 11, 2010 4:22 am

As promised, the next challenge has arrived. And perfectly on time.

This time around it'll be something a little more specific, and something I feel that more people will have some inspiration for. Crew-operated weapons are, at least to me, some of the most badass weapons ever built, so building them yourself should be a lot more fun than, say, gardening tools (never again). Any time period will do, be it ancient, modern, or futuristic. Even a crew-operated pillow launcher would be acceptable.

The rules are copy pasted from the last thread, because they haven't changed:

Your model must be made in 2 hours or less

You can't reuse old models

You must post wireframes and renders here (limit is 3 images, but preferably 2), along with triangle counts, amount of time taken.

You can use any render settings, materials and textures you want, so long as it's all from scratch.

If I'm forgetting anything that you think should be added, let me know.

This challenge will end one week from now on July 17 at midnight-ish (which would technically be July 18th), Pacific Standard time. Click to find out what time that is for you.

I'm considering giving a nice $10 prize for first place depending on how successful this theme is.

Good luck.

This is a winner :D I've gotta do this one.

this is a good one. I won't even bother saying I'll submit something, everyone will just have to wait and see.

This doesn't have to be original, right? It can be based off of something in history?

Pretty sure that's just fine. (The 3D model itself must, of course, be original)

Oh man, I was actually thinking of doing the death star for a bit but decided against it... glad at that.

Nice work.

Max works fine on this computer, just a little bit slow on the renders.

I didn't get the starting time, so I can't keep it within the 2 hour time limit. But I'm still going to post pictures here, just to get some feedback.

You have to make it in less then 3hrs between now and Friday, there is no particular time we all start modeling at. You can still enter the contest as long as you post your entry by Friday with the correct information needed.

I know, I didn't get the starting time. As in, if I started at 9:00, 10:00, etc.

So you took more then 3hrs to model it from start to finish, like 12:00PM-5:00PM? Cause it doesn't matter what time you start modeling it, just as long as its under three hours.
