PackBsp 2.0, a mapping tool

Postby Terr on Wed Jul 14, 2010 5:08 am

Finally got around to getting out of beta, yeehaw.

PackBsp is a tool that analyzes your maps for custom content, and then compresses the custom content (like models or textures) into your map so you can share it with the world.

I will use this.

BUT NOT HAPPILY.

That damn art I did for you was very WiP, but you could have at least said "fuck off Banter, you're shit".

It's not like you're quick to respond to something sent to you.

I respond eventually; within a day or two.

Not four weeks.

Yeah, I was just messing. :P

On the other hand, wasn't there already a software/feauture around that would do this sort of thing already?

PackRat, but it's a glitchy bastard. Besides, this is local Loper software

There may be trouble in paradise: Yesterday it froze up opening a BSP file that used to work... yet GCFScape freezes on that file too, so maybe it's just my own operating-system going down the tubes.

BUT NOT HAPPILY.

:0

Sorry about that. Had some crunch-time with a first-must-be-perfect-oh-god release of a separate thing for my employer, which is why almost a whole month passed since the last Beta and relative lack of major changes. I just wanted to get the damn thing out the door, so I threw in barely-stylized Ep2 screenshots.

Is this exactly like Pakrat in terms of features or does it scan you .BSP then add the files automaticlly?

If it does the second it would save me alot of time finding files.

I'd say the latter.

"How is this better than Pakrat?"
  • Catches a much wider range of custom content.
  • PackBsp can tell the difference between a truly "missing" dependency versus one which is stored in the default game.
  • Under active development, while Pakrat stopped being developed in 2006.

VIDE? Eh? <googles>

Particle Editor: The most complex tool VIDE has to offer. Allows for the manipulation of PCFs, including quick generation of particle manifests, verification of unique element GUIDs across multiple files, movement of systems between files, and conversion between the three most common PCF formats.

Oooh, now if someone had information on the PCF binary format I could detect when an info_particle_system references a missing PCF... ;)
