those simple questions thread...

Any aspects of level design for the Source engine.

It's a exploration-styled map. I guess its more of a portfolio piece than anything else. I'm not aiming for a release that everybody can play :)
I'm going to try and go as highpoly as i can and detail the shit out of everything and see how far i can push it.

"Why aren't you making it in UDK/cryengine?" Because i like source! :D

Why would a particular model crash Hammer when loaded? When it attempts to render it, it just crashes, both the viewports and VGUI selector. Yet, the Model Viewer can render it just fine.

Could large physical size or the use of many materials cause this?

Weird texture problem I've had in a few maps now:

In the 2D views of the map editor, the numbers are glitched:

Do you have an ATI graphics card? Possibly a newer one?

Have you recently updated your drivers? I believe it's a problem with their latest drivers. It doesn't just affect Hammer, it affects others. They've introduced some retarded feature. Try installing the previous drivers.

I have updated my drivers but I have had this problem for years, so that's not causing the problem

Oh. You could perhaps try selecting hammer.exe in the GFX card's control panel and disabling any effects and such for it.

Try enabling Alternate Pixel Center in Catalyst Control Center.

Using 3DS Max is there any way to re-size my model so the UV Map doesn't get totally screwed up? I'm trying to make a few models out of one, just re-sizing it.

As long as the UVW modifier is collapsed to the Editable Poly format you should be able to re size or scale anything to any ridiculous proportions without changing the UVW map. Of course this doesn't mean it will look well, but it shouldn't change the UVW mapping in anyway.
