Make a copy of the final layer in photoshop, move it below the original, then select it (the copy) and with a soft brush apply that blur effect (the one that is like a finger) to the edges until you make the black background disappear in the first 3/4 neighbour pixels of the final layer. That should do the trick, usually the reason of those lines is that you manipulated the image with soft selections, meaning that it will blend with the background.

Had to model a robot, texture it and then create a 12 seconds animation for my introduction to 3D class. About 4 days of work. Quite challenging but I really like the result!

Although the screen feels odd after a while, looks like someone downloaded an amazing model and replaced the screen in Paint. How about a cracked screen overlay and more work on the typography.

is it better? I added broken glass overlay, changed the font and added energy star logo on the right side!

would be cool if you had some animated noise going over the screen to add to the rusty/old feeling of it :)

I don´t think the screen has to be broken, in fact a screen that broken would not even project images because the cathodic rays only work in the void.

What i would do is add some random interferences (preferably when the robot walks around) and a convex shape:

CRT screens (specially the older ones) have a pronounced convex shape.

Here's a late wip of a model I'm making for modelsforthemasses.com

Image

The texture is almost done, there's a few bits that need some lovin and then it's onto making the LOD models (there will be two). I'm almost done but before I lock it out for myself, what do you guys think? It's almost 12,000 polies at the moment (under my estimated 15,000) so I have a little room to breathe with polycount, but not much contiguous texture space left. Rather than adding polies though, I want to modify the texture. To see the truck it is based on, google for "new york garbage truck". Suggestions are very much invited.
