Foundry Mode Portal 2/ Asw

Hey guys , last night I figured out how to load Foundry Mode .

Which to my knowledge no one else has figured out before?

Foundry is Valves Tool Add on for Hammer, much like the Particle Editor, however it cant be accessed in the same way.

Follow these steps to get it working

add your Hammer_dll.dll to your game/bin/tools dir

add "library" "tools/hammer_dll.dll" to your Enginetools.txt

Launch the game with -foundrymode -tools and the usual parameters. -dev -nop4

The game will launch into Foundry and it will launch a hammer window, so you should probably be running in windowed mode.

I'm not entirely sure how to use all of foundrys features yet, so have a go and let me know what you figure out.

Also to my knowledge this only works in p2 and asw.

I tried your method but didn't have much luck. I used hammer_dll.dll from my Alien Swarm installation, is this the file to use?

Well it's a bit buggy, but pretty neat that you got this working! Pretty neat through it sizes Hammer to take up the space that the game doesn't.

Trying to use -noborder does not work well, it locks the Portal 2 window size. To avoid crash while quitting, close the Hammer window, not the game window. Also I have noticed that re-compiling an open map will cause the thing to crash.

THERE IS NO MOUSE LOOK! LOL
Turns out Hammer's "Move Engine 3D View to Hammer View" actually does the opposite.
The model browser is now black, UNFORTUNATELY it is also affected by the game resolution you set.

Here you can see it respecting my dual monitors and a dynamic model that I added and "sent to the game"

I think we are missing some tools, the "Default Layout" button does nothing. It also seems that Foundry is a "tool module"...one of many?! Pluuuuuugiiiiinsssssssssssssssss

Why does this make me feel that we will be seeing a lot more of theses tools at some point? They have a master plan Valve does, I know that much is true.

On the other hand, what on earth is it that this "Foundry" Addon does? I am definitely interested.

Foundry let's use transfer entities from Hammer to the game without recompiling. For example, in my screenshot you see the animated wall panel arm model? That wasn't compiled into the map, it was transferred into the game via foundry.

Also I think you can modify the entity in game (via playing? entity naturally changes state based on game events?) and then transfer that current state back into Hammer but I didn't test that as I had other things to do and my excitement only lasted long enough to verify Steve's genius. Maybe he or you or someone else can tell us more!
