Is this really it?

Does no one here post anymore?

*...Hello*

*echoes*

So the mapping community went out with a whimper, not a bang :(

Or is it all on Facebook now or whatever you kids are doing these days?

What did you expect?

People are tired of waiting for Valve, so they go and play arround with the new toys that companies like Epic offer these days.

The ones that are still somehow doing Source Engine stuff just hope that the next update won't break anything vital again, because an issue might stay unresolved for months or years.

Meanwhile the other engines are getting frequently updates that actually improve things instead of just breaking allready finished games and mods, since they still depend on the the sdk base files.

People that still do Source Modding are veterans that know their way arround, so they don't run into issues they cannot resolve themself very often. Newbies on the other hand start with one of the newer Engines and stay there.

I still like Source for a few things like the really easy&fast to use BSP tools, but i also hate the ancient content import pipeline and a lot of other things.

it's been like this for years :[

mostly people have moved on. I think a lot of the regulars here got jobs in the industry.

I'm working somewhere where we use Unreal 4, and for my hobby projects I'm writing my own engine now. Source is nowhere to be seen.

To tell you the truth, I don't miss it one bit. I feel that there's not a thing in the world that source does better (or easier) than unreal 4. Even code iteration times are faster in unreal, and the damn thing takes an half hour to do a full compile on my machine.

The only reason I come to interlopers sometimes is to check on my old homies.

The mapping community is still alive, it's just interlopers that is dead.
Come talk with us on discord, currently there's 200 people online and people talk about stuff all the time.
Phillip at runthinkshootlive is still hosting competitions too.

Then Black Mesa is still being developed and the workshop has some maps done for it too (I've done 2).
So we're not dead. Quite far from it. :)

Lots of people have moved over to Mapcore, it's still booming over there.
