Been working on a CSS map for a little while named de_beroth. It's very loosely based on the 1983 bombing of the American embassy in Beirut and it supports HDR. Any feedback on gameplay/aesthetics would be greatly appreciated!

Besides my personal opionin on seeing the same ol' tired textures, the brush work is very nice. Looks like a good layout too. Should be a fun map.

That's really a jolly good piece of work! Can't really see anything to complain about.

Great beta, can't comment on the gameplay since I haven't had a chance to play it yet but from the shots I should say the only thing really lacking is the last 10% of detail, the little things if you will.

Things like;
Dirt and weed overlays on the bottom edges of walls.
A few custom textures, praps decals of posters to help the map's setting.
Junk n debris scattered about the general area.
Breaking up some of the walls as though they have been blast damaged (displacements n broken concrete slabs).
Removing the squareness of the internal corridors by adding structual supports/butresses.
Adding spot lights as uplighters/downlighters in the internal areas to create more interesting lighting.
Generally dirtying up the whole thing to give it more of a real world feel.

Good luck with the final version, I look forwards to seeing how it turns out.

gj laerth that is really good mate :smt023

The outside is pretty much perfect I think, really doesn't need much else at all. Although the T-spawn needs a bit of something, even just a truck or something behind the fence would do it.

Inside is all very well built like the outside, but it looks a little to similar throughout. The textures and all look good, but I think it just needs breaking up a little bit so there are some more distinct seperate areas inside. Maybe have a deeper delve into the props folder and see what you can dig up. I'm sure de_nuke would have some models that would work well in this one.
Also the wall lights inside look odd with HDR on. There a very clear light spots on the walls. I would replace those with directed spotlights to fix that (like the inside lights on sdk_cbble.vmf).

Soundscapes could do with being a bit richer, maybe some ambient city sound or something. And also I think some far detail in the sea skybox would be nice, a distant island or boat or something.

I hope I don't sound to negative or anything, cos honestly, as the map is, its very, very good. 8)

Thanks for the comments, guys :)

I'll look into dirtying up the place a bit, adding more debris, and making the indoor areas look more distinctive, as well as adding some rocks or something to the ocean part of the skybox. These things may be secondary to keeping the framerate up, though. How is the framerate for you all, BTW?

The indoor wall lights are a bit saturated w/ HDR because I'm using those cs_office light overlays in addition to a point-light. They look fine in LDR, but the highlights are completely blown in HDR. I'll try the directed spotlights as you suggested, or remove the overlays.

The outdoor soundscapes already have some ambient city noises, but maybe the volume needs to be increased.

Wow, good map, provide some cover out in those open areas.

P.S. My dad was a medic for the U.S. marines. He lost a lot of friends in Beirut when the marines' barracks were bombed. Just keep in mind a lot of good people died there.
