Dear Esther has no npcs. It would be nice if in the cave level you can see the hermit's shadow and him just as his scurry's into a tunnel.

"sick", "great", "enjoyed it alot", ..."not great really"
These are all opinions, many of which are at least influenced by how you wanted the game to be as you started it up for the first time. However, in a reviewing sense, they should come from what you think of the main elements the game tried to stress.
If you wanted a fast-pace FPS, yea it kind of fails in that area, but it also isn't geared in that direction or towards many other common game elements either.
When you say its not really that great, or if you think it is, please have your statements reflected towards what the game is actually trying to do. (and you already are, please elaborate)

All that aside, has anyone played the new Halo: Reach? Its a fucking terrible RTS.

I want Combines too :P

Seriously, I really love his art style but more than anything I want to be blasting NPCs in a first person game. If I want a story I'd rather sit back and watch TV; but whatever I'm sure someone will add NPCs to his maps in SMOD or GMOD.

what do you think would happen if someone took these new, gorgeous maps from Dear Esther...filled them with guns and ammo, health kits and suit batteries, Combine soldiers and helicopter attacks, zombies and headcrabs, striders and hunters...

and released it as "DEAR ESTHER - EXTREME EDITION"

what if they credited the prodigial map author and The Chinese Room for Dear Esther and the level design, then credited themselves with the NPC additions?

Would it be wierd?

No wierder than a hack job on FPSBanana.

This sort of thing has been done many times before anyway, loads of custom CSS maps are ported to SMod then filled with zombies/GIGN or whatever.

No weirder than creating Casablanca: Extreme Edition.

Seriously, putting random enemies into something not intended for such antics is tantamount to defacing the effort that went into the original work.
