My school's 3D Competition!

Postby Garrador on Tue Mar 01, 2011 2:19 am

Hi! I wanted to make a thread about this, because I'm in a competition for my school, where I can win a commercian license for 3ds max or maya!

If you could follow this link and vote for me, I would be grateful.

There are four parts of the competition, so I can re-submit if I dont make it in the first, second or third. But vooooote :)

It's norwegian, so here is an image of how-to:

The help would be very much appreciated =)

well, ofcourse ;) I guess fairness would count, but since it's done the same way for the others, I would like to self-promote. Some of the work there, has a shitload of votes but, no offense intended, dont look so good.
So that is why I did it this way.

Thanks to both of you =)

Cant say I like the other entries more than yours. Wonder why so many of them have so much more votes.

How the hell is that Chemical Oxygen Generator beating you? It's so poorly rendered.

Great work. A little piece of advice - vote-based competitions should mostly be avoided. It's enough to have lots of friends to win, regardless of the submitted work. There are enough competitions on and off line to satisfy you, with real judges and far better prizes, and more worthy competition... There's nothing more fulfilling than beating a worthy opponent!

Thanks alot all of you! :) Appreaciate the compliments!

RafaelBA: I defenatly agree. The opponents are ridicilous, except a few of them. The first rounds are vote-based like this, which I agree, is stupid.
But the last phase is a board of judges, so I get a fair challange as long as I keep at top the 3 first. I dont think I would even be interested if that wasn't the case =P

Anyways, thanks again ;)

EDIT:
I just noticed you can cast another vote when the day is passed!

So, keep on voting gents! ;)

yeah I know, its great :) All thanks to you guys, and ofcourse a shitload of other ppl ;)
Thanks!

I kinda felt like I had to "promote" myself better, so I'll throw in something to make it more of a comp:

I worked on this scene for a month, not always working. It started out with a simple concept art I drew out for it, early planning ahed that I wanted some kind of nature/run-down theme to it. The first process was ofc modeling and uvw mapping the models. I spent a looooooooot of time on the textures and shaders, trying to get it right. I used 3ds Max 2011, so the new flow-editor was a life-saver to work with.

Image

I used "ivygen" to genereate the ivy, that you see around. The ivygen generates on an imported mesh, so some of the meshes, like the fridge, were imported by themselves to get the best result.

Image

The dominant materials are A&C mr mat's, as they are so flexible and great to use. That would also mean that yes, I used mental ray for the production render. Several passes, like AO, physical light and a few more were done for this one.

Image

I was especially happy with the outcome of this piece, and there isnt that much I would like to change, which is great imo.

Image

I think the scene stands out a bit from the rest, being that it's purely 3ds max made, it has a different theme and atmosphere, and imho looks pretty good ;)

Hope you vote for me =)
Thanks!
