HL2 Style Map ideas

Hey guys! I've made many maps and I can never think of ideas so most of them end up unfinished and have nothing to do on them. I'm sure some of you guys will be able to think of something for me to make. Make sure your idea is Half-Life 2 based! :smt023

Make a maze where all the walls are explosive barrels and the only enemies are hacksaws and the only weapon you have is the RPG and the end of the maze teleports you back to the beginning.

That would be SWEET.

By HL2 based do you mean like city 17 and nova prospekt and stuff, or any SP level using the orange box engine? Cause there's only so many city 17's and things in the HL2 universe you can really make before it gets kinda overdone.

I don't understand why you would make a Half Life 2 themed map. Because really, so many lazy mappers didn't put any effort into creating their own location/enviroment/art style so HL2 themed maps are how you say 'Dime-a-dozen'. Unless your willing to put in extra effort and make it your own and not just a rehash of Valves work go ahead.

The thing I do is just mess around with something new and refreshing, being creative with the vertex tool and stuff. If you can keep it organized it's really easy to add and remove stuff, such as making a layout first with a big grid setting and then just going nuts with brushes. If you get something going you're going to be pretty busy for a while and might make something new and interesting.

I was thinking of something in the Half-Life 2 universe but somewhere thats not in Half-Life 2 e.g. another city or a combine facility. I just need some ideas.

You know, coming up with an idea is the easiest part. Remaining true to that idea and finishing your map is the hard part. If you can't even come up with an idea of what you 'd love to work on, how do you even expect to achieve something?

Sorry to say it this harshly but maybe you're just not cut out for level design?

a combine air recycling facility, complete with an ultra-tall lookout point and opportunities to jump all the way down into a tiny puddle of water at the end.

or you can re-create Caspian Border from bf3 and make it all Combine-ish.

While on the subject of awesome scenes/places/battles from other games combined with the HL2 theme/style...

I wanted to do what this clip from Halo at PAX calls "Global Battles":

1:14 through 2:11 look the most interesting to me. I think it would look epic with Combine if done right. I'm gonna see what I can do in Source.

That sounds like a good idea, it would look cool in the HL2 style. I'll have a go at it. :-D
