If you can't get a nice chair it seems like many people these days resort to using a standing desk but i never tried it. I found this post about it, it might help you make a decision:
http://smarterware.org/7102/how-and-why-i-switched-to-a-standing-desk
I had a hard time finding a nice setup since I'm really tall (198cm), but after spending some money I got something that is comfortable enough for me to work. I think that besides the chair the height and distance at which your monitor sit is also very important. This is what you can do, just sit straight (back, shoulders and neck all straight) in your chair, position yourself at a comfortable reading distance from the screen (this varies according to how bad your vision is, but it should always be more than 30cm) and look forward with your eyes relaxed (don't force them) you will notice that your eyes naturally position them selfs in a small downward angle. That point that you're looking at is where your monitor should be which I'm sure is much higher that where it's at right now.
About my depression, I don't want to get into too much details but the turning point for me was when my teeth started to break because i was always grinding them against each other. I would often wake up with small pieces of teeth in my mouth and i started to get scared. A friend forced me to see a doctor, I toke anti depressants for a month (be careful with anti depressants or anti anxiety pills, they are usually highly addictive) and talked with a psychiatrist for a few months an that really helped me.
I think that what usually happens is that people don't realize that things will get better as they grow older and they start loosing hope. Something bad happens and then in your mind you start to extrapolate that and begin convincing yourself that it will always be like that. Well, it wont. I think this article explains it much better than me:

I was referred to this interesting piece that might have something to do with it:

The Real Reason People Won't Change. Full PDF can be found via google search, like here. To quote:

Resistance to change does not reflect opposition, nor is it merely a result of inertia. Instead, even as they hold a sincere commitment to change, many people are unwittingly applying productive energy toward a hidden competing commitment. The resulting dynamic equilibrium stalls the effort in what looks like resistance but is in fact a kind of personal immunity to change.

When you, as a manager, uncover an employee’s competing commitment, behavior that has seemed irrational and ineffective suddenly becomes stunningly sensible and masterful—but unfortunately, on behalf of a goal that conflicts with what you and even the employee are trying to achieve. You find out that the project leader who’s dragging his feet has an unrecognized competing commitment to avoid the even tougher assignment—one he fears he can’t handle—that might come his way next if he delivers too successfully on the task at hand. Or you find that the person who won’t collaborate despite a passionate and sincere commitment to teamwork is equally dedicated to avoiding the conflict that naturally attends any ambitious team activity.

Man I get this way a lot. Main thing that I tend to fall into is not being able to finish a project because of the lack in new assets, or the fact that my project is not "perfect" enough. The main thing that I wish I had was mentor or a team that could help on those bigger projects if anyone understands.

I like reading all your comments though guys, cause it helps me too that I know I am not the only one who faces this. Being one who also wants to get into the game industry, it's nerve racking for me on days when I swear my lack in motivation makes me think I'm not cutout for it. Thanks for bringing this up though Will_B.

actually I can't stress enough the importance of a good chair. In my current flat the 'office' chair that came with the furnishings is really shallow and leans too far back so it totally fucks up my back if I want to use it, really can be uncomfortable and distracting for personal work.

I feel the exact same way, And since I started a new project of mine with an actual deadline, these daunting feelings have hit me again. A good friend of mine I've discussed this with stresses the importance of positive thinking. Don't use the word can't. If you're not enjoying what you're doing take a break, go for a walk, do some push ups. Its also quite good to organise yourself.

I've just started using a program called MindJet mind manager. Its basically a way you can plan out, organise projects or just see your thoughts visually. It has templates for businesses, project plans, time lines and schedules and even a template for 'life Planning' which I've started using. If you're like me and your mind becomes a complete mess when you've go so much to think about, it could help you.

I don't seem to lack organization near as much as I do in the ability to release complete, playable content. It is very demoralizing when you buy a $3,000 computer (like I just did) and find out that you yourself are the problem with getting a mod out. Spent most of yesterday evening reflecting on this topic actually. A wise professional Hourences (who makes great teching media on games) states that long periods of downtime even in the industry can really kill inspiration and creativity. That is more my issue. When I can't cover every thing needed in the design features and thus fall back, and the overall design caves in once again.

When games get increasingly difficult to make on your own you start to want help in some areas where you know you need it. Lets just say I do learn a lot about, say Source. Then I try to fill all the areas needed and I get burned out. It happens to often with me because of that, hence that is the reason why I have wanted to join up with a team so badly.
