On revisiting old maps

Postby ThePain on Tue Apr 15, 2014 8:19 pm

I've had a lot of distractions and left behind projects. I've been learning UDK4 and C++ and Radiant and Radiant scripting for single-player as well as concentrating heavily on my traditional artwork... and instead of starting some brand new map from the pre-pro up, I was considering revisiting my older unfinished maps (L4D2, TF2, CSGO, DoD:S) and finishing them, redoing and sprucing up areas to a higher finished quality. Not so much to create maps that will be played by a lot of people as to create some quick demo-reel pieces.

Any thoughts on the matter?
It's quite simple really. I want to be a professional level designer. I want this to be my job.

My advice would be settle on one, set your self a strict time limit and clear goals of what you want to achieve during the given time.
I wouldn't go over lots of old projects, rather pick one or two to focus on.
Though sometimes its better to just start afresh and work on something new.
