That just made things alot worse slayera. And I'm not asking how to make an overview, I'm asking how to get it zipped up and working for other players.

haha I've fully given up on making overviews now, I've finished it and I can't be bothered doing it again. I wanted it like de_dust, ONLY the map green and the outside of the map completely blank, as in no background colour, and that tutorial didn't tell me how to achieve that. I followed it step by step.

Anyway, just to learn how to zip up the custom soundscapes and overview and then It's release time!

hmmm.. having trouble. i have both vmt's and vtf's made, and inserted into materials/overviews. made my txt doc and its in resources. start map, and nothing but a green box in the top left.
txt :
"de_somniac_v1"
{
material overviews/de_somniac_v1 // texture file
pos_x -2230 // X coordinate
pos_y 2645 // Y coordinate
scale 3.0 // scale used when taking the screenshot
rotate 0 // map was rotated by 90 degrees in image editor
zoom 1.3 // optimal zoom factor if map is shown in full size
}

"LightmappedGeneric"
{
"$basetexture" "overviews/de_somniac_v1"
"$translucent" 1
"$vertexalpha" "1"
"$no_fullbright" "1"
"$ignorez" "1"
}
"LightmappedGeneric"
{
"$basetexture" "overviews/de_somniac_v1_radar"
"$translucent" 1
"$vertexalpha" "1"
"$no_fullbright" "1"
"$ignorez" "1"
}

after following novalin's story, should i just remake it few more times until it somehow works. or did i make a mistake?

The box you quoted here, that's the contents of three separate files right?

Your VMT is for a translucent texture, does your VTF have an alpha channel?

Easiest way to learn how to do something and/or make sure you're doing it right is to look at something that works already. If you have GCFScape, open up a map whose overview works and compare the files to yours.
