There's a few crappy tutorials out there but it's pretty basic. You need to have the images 512 X 512 .tga. Then compile them with VMTCreate (easier than vtex) with the special skybox parameter. Make the .vmts for each with the standard skybox parameters (you can extract a example one on GCFScape) place them in "materials/skybox" and you're done.

If not, any ideas?
(for a map where a far away ground is needed)
Thanks.

like the old cs? i wish there was sky boxes like that in source

Isn't that just a little bit moronic? I mean its a skybox, which means its for the sky. I dont know any skies, that have a ground.

There is a hl2 skyox texture without a sun, but its the cs_office skybox, so im sure you cant use it in hl2, on cs:s, also, everytime i change the skybox texture, it clips the map and screws up and is all hazy and laggy, what the hell

Uhh yeah there is, offices skybox is sunless so you can create your own so it looks alot better than the pre-built-in sun in all the other skyboxes.

since you birng it up, I think this tutorial needs a major update. First of all, it's a pain to click on the individual skies to look at them, second, the images don't let you see the full sky, and third, the lighting on the scene is the same everytime and doesn't match the sky. Why can't we just have a skylist like this:
http://www.hl2world.com/wiki/index.php/Sky_List
(you'll notice they stole the light_env properties from my tutorial  )

EDIT: Nevermind, I edited the wiki so it gave me some credit at least.
