Oh, so basically, the sky_camera should be at the "scaled down origin".
Alright this makes sense now.
An easy way to do this is to make the sky_camera always at the origin to begin with, no matter where the map is, then scale down the reference walls along with the sky_camera, and leave those always in the same orientation, but you can still move them anywhere too.

im a bit confused after watching the video tut where you place the sky_camera, just after you got it to 0,0,0 co-ordinates, you press one of the mouse buttons to make it into an entity (a small blue box) and then leave it. but i dont understand what you did to do this. ive tried everything, "create object", click here, click there. wtf did you do? the video tut is a little hard to follow for noobs like me .. :?

:: EDIT ::

nevermind ...

That's what you're meant to do to start with, and prety much what I said.

Glad you got it. ;-)

ok the tutorial seems great. however...im having an issue. i placed a building in the skybox,(one with skybox in the model name) and for some reason it keeps overlapping into the map. i moved it outside the 1/16th scale version of the maps layout, and then extended the new skybox brush over it to keep it inside the skybox. what am i doing wrong? does it need to remain at the skybox edge, to line up with the map properly?

******************EDIT************************
ok well, i got the placement of them so theyre not inside the map, but they look lower than the rest of the map. :? will simply raising them all up a bit solve this?

sorry to bump this topic..but after reading peoples problems...I just can't resist.

If you can't even make a freaking 3D skybox...WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING MAPPING. Theres an example that comes with the SDK, and shows you how to make one! You shouldnt need a freaking tutorial (the tut is awesome, but still)!!!!! This is one of the easyest things to do, other than create a blank room and try to call it a complete map.

Ok...I'm done ranting...goodbye.

you could, but 3d skybox models are at 1/16 scale. so youre a dumbass if you make it 12x or 8x.

So so easy to say when you know how to do it no? Perhaps drop the elitist attitude and try helping.

Usually I don't use that kind of attitude, instead I try to help. I started about 3 weeks ago..so I'm still a nub myself. Mapping isn't all that hard at this point, it's when you get to the triggering and such that I find is even the least bit difficult. And no, I'm not trying to start a flame war. I'm just saying, they should actually look around before they start asking questions. Placing a sky_camera in a toolsskybox textured box, with a few props, isnt hard at all. I'm sure if they tried to figure it out by themselves, they might find things easyer to do later.

Indeed, but if they don't they turn to sites like this, and people don't join to get told they don't know something, when that's the reason they came here anyway.

Just mentioning my point..
