I take it that you can have whatever lights and such you want in your 3d-box, even smoke-fx?

It depends, some entities work, some do not. I know you cannot place players or NPC's in a skybox. You will just have to try.

IIRC, the SDK docs cover some of what you can/cannot place.

Where can I find the scaled down building props? I look in props_skybox and all that's there is "coast", and when I go to props_buildings, all I find are enormous props.

Yeah! Where the hell DO I find the skybox models?!? They aren't in the skybox folder OR the buildings folder! :?

EDIT: Ok, nevermind that, Now I have some different problems. I think it's the same as Zen's problem where the skybox shows parts of my level like a camera sort-of. Here's some pics:

Exhibit A: My map (it's a working progress)

Exhibit B: Looking out over the edge of my map into the 3D skybox.

Exhibit C: Still looking out over the edge of the map, this time with the flashlight turned on and pointing at the floor. See how it mirrors this change into the skybox? I don't know why but it acts like a real-time camera (I have some cameras and monitors in my map but none of them point towards the direction shown so what the hell could be causing it?).

Ok, my second prob is that I had some buildings below the map to give it a sense of height above the world. this compiled and ran fine but as soon as I used displacement in the terrain below, the skybox buildings dissapeared. Do the buildings HAVE to be on completely flat ground or can they just be stuck on hills? I didn't bother making htem sit flush wiht the terrain because they would be viewed from above and so no-one would noticed. :?

why dont you people make a small box outside the map hollowed and dressed on the outside with no draw texture and the inside with the skybx texture.

and yes, where are those scaled down building props??

Every bloody time I try to transform it to make it really small, at first it made it so large I couldn't see it, and then it just disapears O_O

Hum... I'm french so i don't speak english very well but I've a problem.
It's that when I want to put a building in my 3D Skybox, i make a prop_static entity, i choose my building in prop_buildings_props but when I want to transform it (CTRL + M) and put 0.0625 in scale, it don't change the size of the building.

What can I do ?

you cant scale model, btw the skybox buildings are in the building props =>there are big ones but every building also has a skybox version (16 times smaller)

The 3D skybox entity scales everything within the 3D skybox. You can't scale the buildings inside the 3D skybox if you are using models for them, as models can't be scaled without changing the source file.

L'entité du skybox 3D mesure tout dans le skybox 3D. Vous ne pouvez pas mesurer les batiments à l'intérieur du skybox 3D si vous utilisez des modèles pour eux, car des modèles ne peuvent pas etre mesurés sans changer le fichier.

Hope I got that right. :P
