Sorry about this bump.

I am having problems, similar to Sauce and Zen.

The skybox is showing on my level in the air.

My map is an island, and it has water surrounding it. I have some water, then the 3D skybox does the rest. I spawn, and i can see the land, but the water is invisible, but it is there, i then hop in the water, and the skybox does its job. I hop out and i can see my map in mid air, and i can see the 3d skybox. Can anyone help?

Screenshots will be provided, if needed.

Thanks,

i think he meant it isn't considered a bump...

anyway, your problem smells like a leak. Water has problems with leaks. Also, if you had a leak, and then you copy your level over and made it into a skybox, then the sky_camera will reach out and find the big version of your level, and project a copy of it into the sky that is 16x bigger! The moral of the story- don't get leaks.

The problem was that when scaled up in-game, the 3D sky intersected with the 2D sky. This means you have efffed up somewhere when you translated or transformed or something.

Just redo your 3D sky and make sure it either fits PERFECTLY around your map when scaled up, or it is beigger than your 2D sky. Hope that helps.

Hey, thanks, this was really useful....
I am pretty new to this, and all the other tutorials on 3d skyboxes were too hard too follow. And the example that came with the SDK explained nothing.

I was finaly able to get this with your tutorial, but (sorry if I missed something) how do you change the texture of the sky?

Also, I've placed light_environments on the 3d skybox and the actual map, but it is still pretty dark and hard to see. I am suspecting this is caused by the sky texture, which is some how making it darker. Am I correct?

In the map menu, open map properties. There is field for sky textures. Use you texture browser to find the sky texture you want, just take off the dn, bk, ft, or whatever at the end. The light_environment is no way related to how light or dark the skybox texture is. If the map is really dark then your 3dskybox might be projecting inside your map, in which you are better off remaking your skybox.

Thanks for the reply. I found out after I posted that it was some setting for the light environment.

Thanks again.

I've got the lightmap problem, but i can't seem to change the lightmap size on my displacements in the 1/16 skybox. Plus i don't know what size they should be. Can you resize the texture, does that help?

ok, i can change them, but i can only raise the value on two of the displacements.

On the ones i can onyl raise, the value is 62.

on the other displacements, the value is 56.

what does the value need to be in order to stop the error?

I 've got a small problem with the shadows/lights in the 3D skybox. Now I know there has to be a extra light_environment in the skybox because both get lighted seperatly. Matching the fog and lights was no problem. But the shadows wont ... now I got those huge, black shadows casted by the props ... I tried increasing the lightmap scale on the floor of the 3D skybox but it didn't help.

How can I get my skybox shadows to match with the world shadows?

Are both light_environments facing the same way?
