Make sure you reload your map after the buildcubemaps is complete, otherwise it is not saved to the .bsp correctly.

Yea, I know. I got the cubemaps to work, but after I exit the game and load it again they are reset. Nothing about the file was changed (ex-name) and it still resets.

hi-
Im still new to this and on my map, I have been having trouble with lighting whereas my ivy decals will be glowing and you can see the border or the decal and they change sometimes when you walk around/to the side of them. I tried just now placing cubemaps to see if it would fix the issue, being my first time doing this, and I compiled. I then typed in buildcubemaps, and the images came up. Then, I typed in restart, but nothing happens. I also tried "Retry", which seemed to restart the map (I think...), but the problem still looked the same so I dont know if it even restarted.

Any suggestions?

I have a question relating to props.

All of my props are still using the skybox for their cubemaps. How do you direct a prop to use the cube maps?

I am using a custom texture and even specified in the material to use env_cubemap for my cubemap source.

Props use the nearest cubemap for reference

As long as you place a cubemap where ever there is a major change in lighting you should be fine.

Really? Because.... none of mine are.

Every single prop in my scene is using the skymap after I run "buildcubemaps" I ran it on my roomate's system, same thing.

I'm even using a couple of default props with reflections, and I can make out clouds and a horizon pretty distinctly. Could I have changed a global variable somewhere in hammer?

Are you restarting the map after running the command? They will behave incorrectly until you restart the map.

You have to run buildcubemaps again after each compile.

Yes and Yes.

I run buildcubemaps.

I then exit the game completely. Restart Half Life 2 DM. Load'er up and BAM. Clouds everywhere. Well... everywhere there are prop_XXX entities
