Using VMEX

Postby Tutorial on Tue Apr 05, 2005 6:14 pm

1- Install 'Java Runtime Environment'

2- Extract VMEX to somewhere like "C:\vmex"

3- Go to Start > Run and type "cmd" (without quotes)

4- You should have somthing like this:

5- Type "cd\" then press enter to go back to the "C:\"

6- Type "cd vmex" and hit enter. This should open the vmex folder, like this:

7- Type "vmex <mapname>.bsp" and hit enter. In this example, I'll decompile dm_steamlab, so:

Finished decompiling:

8- Open Hammer and open the newly created 'dm_steamlab_d.vmf' :

9- Enjoy :) But remember, DO NOT USE VMEX TO STEAL SHIT OUT OF MAPS!!! If you do I WILL track you down and club you to death!

the way i do mine is to get GCFScape and open ur steam amps folder find hl2 content double click on that then click hl2 then maps find the one you want then extract it to were ur vmex is stored. the copy teh name of teh map extracted, now rite click on the vmex ms dos batch file and click edit which then opens notepad then in that line of text at teh end put ur map name then .bsp at teh end of it and it should be like this

java -jar Vmex.jar your map .bsp

then you close the window and save it, then double click the vmex batch file to run it and it should decompile ur map and put the vmf file in the same folder

this tutorial is kinda pointless now; the new version of vmex has a gui.

This tutorial is way out of date. Now Vmex is a lot better and has a gui. Check online for it -- it basically works by itself (no command prompts)

Well, when i open vmex it works fine accept for the fact i cant open any hl2/cs:s maps. I then got GCFScape because someone said i needed it to open thoes maps. first i cant find any hl2 maps or where there located(I tryed Valve\Steam\SteamApps\accountname\counter-strike source\cstrike\maps\ and there not there) so when i try to open a custom map it says:

Could not open:
C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\accountname\counter-strike source\cstrike\maps\mapname.bsp

Error:
Invalid File version.

The file's signature does not match.

Ive posted this before and no one helped me so please tell me what you think i should do.

Edit-if no one answers this i will just make it a topic under help
