...However, point_spotlight cannot be toggled.

Hence why I suggested to use the light_dynamic instead.

And having the light turn off when you shoot it and having glass gibs shoot is just a matter of setting up the light with the proper triggers to turn off when its hit and then adding a gib entity to spray some glass gibs at the same time.

THANK YOU! When I go for making a map, no matter what game it's in, I really focus on the lighting as much as possible. It really adds a lot to the level if it's done correctly. Nice tut by the way. I'm going to add some of these in my next map that I make =)

Taking this a step further...I'm trying to build a small background map.

(Background maps are those sweet things you see that match up to the chapter you're on in the main menu.)

In my background map, you're looking into a room that has a few people, and they're hiding out from bombs that are landing outside. Now, I've constructed a timer that sets off explosion sound effects at random, creating part of the illusion of shelling outdoors. However, to complete the effect, I wanted to make the screen shake.

As anyone who's used env_shake will tell you, and as I have learned, the entity has no effect on placed cameras - only on the player's POV. So, instead of shaking the screen, I wanted to have some visual cues inside the room. I thought, "Making the lamps jiggle around would help!" But, you guessed it, env_shake has no effect on hanging lamps, either!

So my question is this: How can I make my lamps swing when the timer fires, if not via env_shake? Thanks!

I imagine using a phys_explosion set to a low level will do what you need. Try that out.

Great tut! Very informative. But I am having a slight problem... Everything is working fine except for that the light changes from one type to another type as soon as its hit (starts swinging). While its sitting there before ANYTHING hits it itll light the room up completly but as soon as i hit it with anything it will change to a spotlight-like light. I'll post pictures of before and after in a little. If anyone knows how to fix this please help :D TY.
This is what it looks like before it moves AT ALL.

THis is what it looks like after it gets hit and starts swinging. It looks like this permanently as soon as it changes to this.
