Great!
I hoped that this was possible in HL2, because I really needed it..

Sorry Nav didnt notice this post for a while.. if you look at your settings they are different than mine, especially Swap RGB. That could be your problem. Hope this helps.

Hi,

is it possible to make a working magnifying glass or emeralds using
the refract shader?

If so, could you give me some instructions how to do so?

I'm not really good at this stuff.

Any help is appreciated.

may guess is yes but I never tried it,
best bet would be to just go try it.

Code: Select all
{
    "$basetexture" "my_textures/waterthing"
}
"refract"
{
"$model" "1"
"$bluramount" "1"
"$surfaceamount" ".100"
"$scale" "[1 1]"
"$normalmap" "my_textures/waterthing_normal"
"$dudvmap" "my_textures/waterthing_dudv"
"$envmap" "env_cubemap"
"$envmaptint" "[7.7.7]"
"$REFRACTTINTTEXTURE" "my_textures/waterthing"
}
"Proxies"

   {
      "TextureScroll"
      {
         "texturescrollvar" "$bumptransform"
         "texturescrollrate" 3
         "texturescrollangle" -90
      }
   }

I have that, I do buildcubemaps in the map but it's still checkers, and my cubemaps are placed correctly...

edit : Ar, it's ok, I sorted it, but it doesn't scroll :\

Move your proxy within the main brackets!

You can take out the top 3 lines as well

I am having the exact same problem - and I've tried both CS2 and the Original CS. Neither version will produce the proper dudv.

Though I have found that if you increase the contrast on that grey dudv, it will look right...

...but I'd rather have it done right the first time. Any suggestions?

I'm using an older version of the Nvidia tool which I feel works better than the new one. Maybe try using an older plugin?

I got the same problem, i first thought itd be the ATI card. But it cannot be the ATI card because i tried on an nvidia too and that dindt work for me either!

Where to get the older version? On the official page is only the newest version of this tool.
And even if not, nvidia disabled the directory listing in the download directories:
http://download.nvidia.com/developer/NVTextureSuite/ (this is where the linked .exe file is)

If someone with the older version could tell us the file name thatd be nice :)
This is the on i got: Photoshop_Plugins_7.83.0629.1500.exe

//edit: I googled and found filename of version 6, but when using the url generated out of that it says file not found - could someone upload the older version pls?

I'm needing help with this too :cry: When I try to make a refracting texture, instead it seems to be some kind of very blurry mirror.

Image

(What the blocks are from left to right)

The basic texture, (should be transparent, but stops being transparent when I use a normal map :smt102 ).

The refracting texture tied to a func_detail.

The refracting texture tied to a func_brush, with Render Mode set to Normal.

The refracting texture tied to a func_brush, with Render Mode set to Additive.

As you can see, none of the refracting texture brushes work, and I have got no idea why.

"Refract"
{
"$model" 1
"$bluramount" "1"
"$surfaceprop" "Glass"
"$refractamount" ".100"
"$scale" "[1 1]"
"$normalmap" "glassblock01_normal"
"$dudvmap" "glassblock01_dudv"
"$envmap" "env_cubemap"
"$envmaptint" "[.7 .7 .7]"
"$REFRACTTINTTEXTURE" "glassblock01_refract"
}
The VMT.

The REFRACTTINTTEXTURE texture.

The normal map.

The DU/DV map.

I am running above dxlevel8, and I have built cubemaps. Anyone got any ideas why this sin't working for me? :cry:

Not bad, although it could do with a little more examples.

Took me a couple hours to figure out that the name of the vmt always has to match the name of the REFRACTTINTTEXTURE vtf. Kind of annoying but oh well
