Well the idea is to decide who is the best mapper in all areas, Gameplay, Visuals, Optimization, Originality, etc etc, so if a mapper only knows how to map for SP of course he can't be as good as one who know how to map for both SP and MP.
About the money, i'm going to give 200€ from my own pocket, but if every1 is willing to pay 5€ we will get 280€ (probablly round it to 300€). So the winner will get something between 150 to 120€ (the prize money is distributed between the top4 mappers).
Nothing of this is final tough, and i might change my mind untill registrations start. I'm also contacting some organisations/companies so if we get lucky there will be some very atractive prizes :)

My biggest doubt now is how to judge each match. Please remember that is 1vs1, i was thinking that to make things faster, the first rounds are decided by a judge, and the last rounds are voted by the community. Probablly need to set up a site with all this crap..

Sounds exciting. I'm too broke to pay entrance though sadly. I think Barrakid should be given to the winner as sex slave for a month, that would solve the money problem.

Edit: actually I could probably stretch to 5 euros

1. no money involved, it would basicly be gambling. a tangible or non-tangible prize is good enough.

2. maybe admin powers for a month?

3. judges (the interlopers admins)

4. i say put it on hold

5. 3 weeks

6. i think it should be made by the admins.

overall it sounds like a fun idea, i hope this actually gets put to use.

This is a great idea. I'd rather get an ok prize and not have to pay then pay money then probably end up losing anyway.

Is there any kind of registration? How do you pick the people to compete? If it's first come-first serve, definately count me in!

Registration will start as soon as everything is fully planned.
The top 4 of the ranking are automaticlly registered, if they refuse the invitation then the 5th ranked will be invited, and so on. The rest are the ones who register first, and will be seeded acording to their map battle ranking.

Well I really like the idea...dont care too much about the prizes but hey if there comes up something cool at the end why not. I would pay a few bucks to enter even though its going to be difficult to win. Hell the guy winning probably deserves to get the prize!!!

Hmm judging...I would go with the admins on this one. Maybe for the last and final stage community and judges together.

The map battle should keep on going!!!

How much time? Hmmm difficult...dont really know...cannot make up my mind.

And finally the theme...hmm I believe it should be the same as in the map battle. Lets say make a scifi map or stuff like that. I really like the idea of making a playable map for the final round. Not to big...like 5vs5 no more than that!!

1. hmmm, let's set the variables {
me = broke;
credit card = null;
paypal = null;
}

but if a small fee is set I'll probably figure out a way to pay it :D

2. I think recognition is a very big prize. Not sure exactly how to accomplish it, but front page would help. Also possibly try to get a general gaming site or something to recognize the winner/top few. It would be cool to let people know "where it's at". And the winners get to be a little famous. It would be pretty awesome. Also the playable maps we seem to have agreed on ought to be spread around in a pack, showing off the mightiness of interloper's best :)

3. like it's been said, judges at first, then community/judges for the end.

4. YES

5. a couple weeks (ish)

6. I think Tom pretty much nailed it. If not, I'll suggest something like: kinda specific themes at first (i.e. a bridge, like the early map battles), then something more broad (maybe a setting), next; I liked Tom's idea of something really vast or just an abstract concept (like "Trapped" or something better), the last would be the playable one.

I think we should also audition, see why you want to enter bla bla :P, or entry based on a quick 3 hour map. we dont want no mapping noobs spamming up the comp

BaRRaKID wrote:1- Would you mind paying a registration fee to help get better prizes? If so what's the maximum amount you would pay?

2- What kind of prizes would you want to get?

3- Should the winner be decided by a selected judge, or be voted by the community?

4- Should the regular map battles keep going at the same time as the tournment?

5- How much time should be given for each match?

6- What kind of challenges/themes you think are better for the matches?

1) Registration fee would suck, I don't have a credit card.
2) A graphics card would be lovely.
3) Community vote.
4) Map Battles should come to a halt if the tournament only lasts say, 3 months - otherwise they whould continue.
5) 2-3 weeks sounds good.
6) Something that doesn't involve mapping skill, but rather creativity (the way you use your mapping skills).

What's a graph card? Does it draw graphs?
