I just had to vote for good ol' Rocket, because... well, I'm not at liberty to say...

I can't believe you guys are voting for a bunch of rocks and rebar...or whatever that stuff is. You should be voting for Rocket or Alminie.

its nice to see someone isnt enthralled solely by hdr and color correction.... i dont know if that gave me a vot but thanks, and thanks too watcher

Jest@ yours is superb, the shaping of the mill is amazing

[rant]
its very sad to see people voting for flashy glowy shit, and not custom thigns that took time and effort to create, i thought the community would appreciate custom content, like the stuff in alminies..... but maybe not.

i dont want to be vote mongerring here (in the end it is just a silly little competition with no prize) but maybe in the next competition people will take time and consider the amounts of effort that went into the maps we see. Give me 2 minutes in photoshop and i could turn my maps into flashy glowy shit, i would do it in the engine too, but means to buy a new graphic card a slim to none.

[/rant]

if people are interested in the contents of my map, i can create a download package with everything in it, ill just ahve to see what response i get

Yes I'll admit I have overused the CC a little too much and if I could resubmit my entry I would tone it down a hell of a lot,
but please, just because i have used some fancy post-production effect doesn't mean that I haven't put any effort or time in creating the map itself.

Like most people here, I began work on a map at the start of the competition. Unfortunately after one week of solid work, my first map (a futuristic ship of sorts) turned out to be rather crappy so I decided to start over and create a map with a new idea in the remaining two weeks. This map was not easy to make either. It was plagued by dozens of errors, and my first attempts at custom textures looked like total shit. Colour Correction was simply a neat little effect I discovered near the end.

My point is, there is no need to go judging the amount of effort put into someone's work because of some stupid effect.

Im sure we have all put our best efforts into the maps as you have Rocket.

that has to be hard to make. The color correction is not a stupid effect :( hehe.

Well i can see everyone really put an effort into making these scenes. Thanks to everyone for making a visual masterpiece for me to look at!:P

After seeing everyone else's finals I feel embarrassed. Never did get it like I really wanted color wise or mood.

Good luck to every one else.

I actually voted for his recreation of the level in Metroid Prime.

I tought that what mattered was who made the most visually appealling scene, not who put the most effort in it. If you have techniques that enhance your map looks, and don't give that much effort then why not use them? if you choose not to it's obvious you will get less votes, and there is not point on arguing about it since it was your choice. I personally love color correction, i saw it was a great feature the minute the first videos of it got out. It gives you the possibility of making something with the same looks as sin city for example. HDR is being used in map battles since the day it got out, so i don't undersand what's the problem with it.
I personally think it's really lamme (i can't find a better adjective) to come here and rant about people not voting in your map, and voting for others, and even worst, bashing other peoples work. If certain maps are getting so many votes, it's obvious they made something good, and if you'r not getting enough votes, then it's also obvious you made something wrong.
And btw using photoshop to enhance your screenshots is forbidden, so don't even try to go there.
I've no sign

I would like to be able to download your map to try it out... Looks awesome, and perfect for a GMod comic.

I hate to say it, rocket, but...the first thing i thought of when I saw your map was The Sims...something about those trees and the clean, vividness of everything (bright green, bright white, bright blue)...so maybe time and effort into custom content doesnt always work out to create a good look. Besides, looking at the complexity of badrobot's, it's a miracle his gfx card didnt commit suicide trying to render it - serious time and effort must have gone into it to make it work, it's just his time and effort was spent in hammer, not max &/or photoshop.

edit:

that sounds like you have some kind of voting arrangement (we'll always vote for each other), or you're sucking up to each other for some reason...not exactly in the spirit of the thing, is it?

Sure, I was shocked when I saw robots, because it looked real due to the lighting. I'm only voicing my opinion though, not like you have to pay attention to it. I voted for Rocket, despite his trees being too bright green, because simply I like his scene better. That is what this is about, correct? Like you said Barra? I found his visually pleasing over robot's, so I voted for it. Lets leave it at that.

well first of all, this is somewhat of a counter rebuttle to the points allready made against me, like barra's, yours does make perfect sense and is legitimate (and dont worry, i know not to use phtoshop). How ever im not looking to start a flame war.

second: bad-robot, im not critisicizing yuo so much as the community.

third: Jesta me and watcher have no agreement, i dont think we have ever interacted beyond what you see here on the forums.

fourth: Dont believe me and bobthehobo are the only ones who are thinking what we say

Bad-Robot, imo your WIPs were a lot better than the final product.

Jest@, my friend, something about that ... stuff... you made just appeals to me. It calls to me, like a vote in your name. I hope you win, looks like you are.
