Something wins by a country mile. Sathor's was good too.

i went with something because it didn't look like anyone one else really tried with their scenes. The only other person i was considering was kodox because that building might have taken a bit o time

I'm going to go with Something. He worked very hard on it and when I look at each picture I like to be amazed with effects and lighting.

Although I'll admit the other entries had some nice architecture. The mood just didn't catch me. (Just a hint for those who want my vote in the next compo)

something: your shots look almost like something that was war torn long ago, but has since grown peaceful and quiet. so for me (whether you intended to or not), you sort of captured both themes. personally, I would have taken shots from more varying angles. If you had one from above that showed the gunship more clearly, well that would just be swell.

Ripper_hugme: I'm guessing you were going for 'war of the worlds'. The mapping itself seems good, but your shots are too dark and narrow to really drive home the war theme for me. If the theme were 'desolation' or something like that, you'd be spot on.

nuke333: You get points for attempting the 'peace' theme. Making a map to convey that feeling, up against a bunch of war maps is a tall order. that said, I don't really feel it in your shots. They aren't bad, but I don't really get a sense of emotion from them. The color of your skybox is a stark contrast to the rest of the map, which is a bit jarring. That may be the problem, though i'm not really sure.

Sathor: You did an excellent job driving home the grim sense of what war really is. I only wish you would have varied the angles of your shots more. one from maybe 10 - 15 feet in the air would have changed it up a bit.

Kodox: Your shots are cool, and convey a sense of large scale war in some sort of futuristic alternate reality. The only real downside is the lack of skybox.

in the end, it's a tough call for me between Sathor and Something. Sathor hits the nail on the head in terms of theme, but in these competitions, i usually weigh both theme, and composition. Something has created a scene that's visually interesting while capturing something from both sides of the theme (war / peace) in my eyes.

Congratulations Something, you get my vote.

Something wins this one by a long shot. The mood, the brushwork, the lighting, it's all right on. Sathor did a great job with mood, but it felt a little bit empty in the foreground, could've used some more stuff and the lighting was pretty decent. Kodox had some sweet stuff going on, but the single building in the large field was weird and the lighting, while decent, was nothing to write home about. Great job from everyone, particularly the three I mentioned, but again, Something just had it this time.

Well, Vecima has written what i was gonna say, so I won't write it all out again.

I thought you all did a wonderful effort, and Something has my vote.

Gratz all!

Vecima pretty much summed it up, but here's my input.

Something won it for me because:
-no part of his map looks boring
-the map has an excellent balance between artistic style and realism
-there are many smaller details like trim and decals that make it look much much better.

Sathor's was done very well and has a great mood, and would have won it by a longshot if not for Something's

Ripper_Hugme's came next IMO because it also had a great mood, but it just didn't have enough in it/visible to compare with the first two.

Then Kodox's. It certainly looks cool but it's missing a 3d skybox, mainly. Or any surroundings whatsoever. The building also is a little confusing to look at. +10 coolness points though.

nuke333's comes in last for 3 reasons
-It looks more like an aim map (because it is) than a work of art
-There are no displacements.. the grass is completely flat and unvaried
-The skybox was a valiant attempt, but failed because the colors don't match
It wasn't bad otherwise.

Great job to everyone!

I really wish I could've submitted my map for this, but I started it too late in the compo to really matter. Maybe next time. As for who's map is the best in my eyes, I need to think on it some... :?

Something's looks just really great. Thanks for the feedback, by the way. If I have time, I will always participate in the Map Battle in future (if the themes are not really against my mood ^^) ... chaos and destruction is my favorite
