The Future

Postby Jest@ on Sat Jul 07, 2007 12:16 am

That's right, Blink has kindly asked me to be the new Design Section admin, a position I was more than happy to fill. After his long stewardship, a round of applause to Barrakid for all his hard work :smt038. We look forward to seeing you as a contestant, and we'll miss all the bad spelling, dude ;)

I'll have the first of many battles posted soon, so watch this space. For now, battles will remain much the same as before, although I'm hoping to implement some changes before too long.

For now, I'd love to hear all of your opinions on the battles; the rules, the time periods, the voting, the types of themes (although please keep specific suggestions here)...If you've got a view, hit the reply button.

Come one, come all, to the Interlopers Map Battles! Remember, it's you guys who make these things what they are. Here's to the future!

Congrats, Jest@. Just to let you know, I was in the running for becoming the next DS Admin, but I had a feeling I wouldn't win. I just haven't done as much as you have to show I'm worthy. But, I'll still participate in the battles. May the design force be with you, and may there be many interesting and fun map battles to come! :-D

I think it would be cool to see model battles in addition to map battles, and more "special" battles. For example someone (penney?) posted an idea where we would be challeneged to recreate an area that somone would be charged to go out and take pictures of.

Or perhaps a speed battle, where you had only two-three days to make a map (and the date of start would be posted a week in advance).

Yeah, themes are awesome, but I think more could be done with the battles.

ps. I sent Blink a PM that said "make either Jest@ or (list of a few others) the design section admin please!"

So, I'm glad it's you. congrats :D

Well, thanks for your vote, you win a cash prize ;)

I've been thinking about speed-modeling challenges, very popular on general, non-game-oriented modeling forums. Speed battles for mapping might be a good idea, i think it might prevent people getting too bogged down. Penney's idea is good, but I think it may get a bit complex, and is very reliant on people A) getting the photos in decent time and B) the photos being good enough for others to want to work from. I quite like Garrador's idea of squad battles, although people need to be pretty dedicated to the team - probably pretty tough, with school/work/mods etc.

How about winning more than points when you win? The winners map could be displayed in the interlopers banner on the top of the pages (the picture which currently is a citadel) and maybe display the name of the creator to give them some publicity.

I would also like to see older map battle maps up there, since I have two of them... :-D

Sorry for my rusty english...

When somebody wins a map battle a screenshot from thier map is put as background behind the interlopers.net text.

Just a suggestion of course.

It's a good idea. I also think there should a "best of the forums" type of page, where we can vote for selected levels etc to be displayed.
