My thoughts...

-No Gmod. Unless it's in some seperate-but-equal map battle specifically for Gmod.

-Video's entries are a great idea, but there can be no editing of the video whatsoever.

-This thread needs another admin to get more battles up and running. I mean, how long has it been since the last battle? A month (it seems like it, anyway)? Unacceptable.

-More battles.

I don't think he wanted to do a battle over the christmas season as it would fail.

The last battle ended two weeks ago, be a bit more patient.

Well, that makes sense. Still I feel like there aren't enough battles happening. And if our Moderators are worried, maybe, that too frequent battles would drive away competition, well, I feel that's not true. I think it will only give people more incentive to compete.

No, half the problem is that if we have a battle every 5 minutes, people don't have the time to compete or put effort in. Everyone has lives/jobs/other maps/mods to work on, we can't expect people to be constantly mapping for a non-playable map contest - the whole point is it's meant to enhance your design skills, not take up so much time you never get to use those skills. Sure, they may be some people free for each one, but it's only gonna be 3-5 people in each contest if we do them the whole time. And then it's barely worth it.

If all the year were playing holiday,
to sport would be as tedious as to work.
Yet when it seldom comes, it wished-for comes -
and nothing pleaseth like rare accident.

My guess it is of a Romantic poet, perhaps 19th Century.

thatd be Shakespeare if im not mistaken =D i think its from Henry IV but it might be from Macbeth, i forget...

but i think a video style would be quite a good idea. use it for say, an action scene, or a dialgue scene. you could even do a long one and make a very short movie, so say something like 1 or 2 mins but have like a few months to do it or something... that may be a bit hard but just my thourghts

and yeh im against the G-mod idea aswell, unless it were to be a fully g-mod battle, specifically for it.

i like the idea of showing the winners work somewhere on the home page, it would give people a bigger insentive to participate.

but if you were to do differnet kinds of battles (such as mapping, moddeling, textureing), they would have to be together, otherwise people who only did one, wouldn't be able to do any kind of battle while the others were on. but this could mean people have to decide beetween the 3 (or 2, depending) and i think more people will go for the mapping.
but you never know.

I don't really like the movie idea. It creates a ton of extra work that isn't part of the actual mapping, which is what these contests were made for.

Suggesting a second admin again?? Just to speed things up a bit in between battles when Jest@ has other commitments, I think if there were two admins then one could cover for the other and vica versa. I think there'd be no harm in it.

So Jest@ replaced Barrkid, because BK was never around, and now BK is helping Jest@, because Jesta is never around?
