Everyone had either really awesome visuals or a really awesome idea, but Cremator was the only one that had both, in my opinion.

Spas12 and 904, make those playable and I will have your children.

Spas's map is playable, it's a HL2 deathmatch map. He ported it shortly after turning in his final images.

I like them all, alot. vcool you really made me laugh :)

I was thinking about Spas12's, but it just don't see the deconstruction.
PaulH, yours is 2nd place in my mind, very good work. Equal actually to the one I voted for: Cremator's

To me Cremator's is not just darkness & light, when I look at it I also see:

-winter & fall
-cold & warmth
-nature & technology
-love & hate
-fear & ambivalence

and a few others I thought of before that I can't remember now.
I suppose all of those are kinds of darkness and light, and to me it makes the scene not just fine art, but also a kind of poetry. And why I had to choice Cremator's entry over PaulH's entry.

had to go crem just cause hes my bud and i felt he hit the theme the best.

paul would have been my 2nd choice and then 904.

Paul had a really nice presentation and cool detail (but I can only vote once! :P)
I love the artistic look of 904! It rocked! but i think he took the theme a little to literally.

Had to vote for Cremator, but 904 was a close second. I feel like I'm just jumping on the band wagon with my vote, though.

My vote goes to 904. It is very conceptual work and by being so it hits the nail on its head. Its simplicity jumps out of the usual gaming environment. Maybe I am looking to deep but its social criticism seems so clear to me that I can see certain experiences within his work.

Cremators work is beautiful...I mean come on people is just plain awesome!!! If there would not have been 904s work my vote would have gone to you (putting on a Coldplay album or Tool and cutting my veins).

Hellrazor...hmm...Hellrazor. I love the idea and I absolutly understand what you were aiming for. The first two pics look good but the inside of the house doesnt convince me (the lack of detail). Maybe you could have put people inside the house...sitting around the fireplace. Than you could have taken your sceenshots from outside the house looking inside, watching the poeple warming themselves while the observer (us) is outside in the freezing cold looking at the people inside.

Jister...what happened? I really liked your wips but why...whhhyyyyyyyy the red color? It kills all the cold and sharp differences which should be standing out.

Khaeotixs...hmm...very difficult. I believe you wanted to show how humans exploid natural resources. If that was the idea...its a great idea...but it just doesnt show in your screenshots. There is just too much machine and too little nature (destroyed nature).

PaulH...if this isnt cool then I dont know what is!!! It looks great and it gives me some kind of creepy feeling. I would love to walk knee deep in water, be scared shitless, entering this building!!! Great work... awesome gaming environment.

Punky...Its a great idea...just like I said before to Hellrazor...but there is something missing. You put much more detail into building the factory than in designing the surrounding area. If you really want you show what kind of influences the industry has on the enviorment you have to show both sides.

Spas12...it looks great...hell yeah it really does look great!!! But it seems like you started to work and lost track of the concept behind your work. It is very difficult to create something...cut your ideas...and keep the inicial concept in mind. I really hope...please...please...use your work and build a map around it!!!

vcool...hehehe (not laughting about you or your work)...it reminds of soooo much of college...or high school...hehehe!!! Your work is going to the extrem using the work conceptual. It is so simple yet great (college: "AAHH dont have time...shit...45mins to class...havent done anything lets do something real quick"). Trust me, I am not putting your work down or anything. You idea is great...it is so simple, it just has to work...and it does. Only problem is how you pulled it off...your screenshots are way to dark. Its is more like shapes against a brighter background. If I would not know the differences between a model and brushes I would not be able to tell the difference between them both.

Ok, thats it from my side...I think we have a lot of great entries and I will do my best to be able to participate in the next map battle.

Saludos,

DM

I think this was a predictable battle lol...As a side note i think if people want to see maps in these battles that arent 'just HL2' maps they have to give some consideration to that fact that not everyone has custom models at their disposal or time to create some though...

...and mine. Really love the emotional content. Great work...

(...on a side note, can't we have some kind of map battle where it's who can make the best brush based cow? ^_^ lol, j/k)

You should definently write a tutorial on how to do that Cremator! It's incredible!(By the way, I mean the red pellets which as you said are particle system, but how did you also use the color correction? )

I loved Jisters, but it seemed like all the npcs were just standing there lifeless.

Overall, I loved PaulH's entry. Very artistic. Almost like concept art for a video game. In fact, I had the bluish color corrected version for my wallpaper a couple days ago. :P

There were some fantistic entries apart from Crem's map though, Really liked Jister's and Spas12's map, PaulH had a great atmoshpere going on in his map especially the one with the blue color correction!
