I don't think I'm gonna be able to finish my Azkaban idea. I have too much to do getting ready for college in the next few days and I still have no idea how to make that crashing water effect look nice.

So, best of luck to all the competitors. I can already tell it's going to be a close battle.

Yup o:

By the way, I don't think you need a spinning light, since it's just a still picture. You could simply move the lights and re-compile - Unless that's cheating Oo.

/Should work on my Entry.

if you take a lot of screenshots. and convert them to a gif.

does that count as 1 pic?

(interesting way to show off cool lighting effects. have the light shine in the camera. hehe)

A Gif is never a good way to show off anything.

Maybe make an APNG?

Indeed especially since it only allows 8 bit pixels and 256 colours.

Exactly!

APNGs support as many colours as a normal PNG, and all sorts of other fancy stuff. Unfortunately APNGs aren't really 'standard' yet, and I don't think IE supports them.

IE (although I think 7+ is okay with it) hates png's. If you have any alpha, hello blue background!

I don't think I'll be sending in my entry. I just don't have the time anymore :(
I design (v4.1 released 23/2) and Tweet.

Sorry but I don't have any more time to work on my entry as it looks now. School is up my end for the remaining days of the week.

** FINAL **

Here is my final entry.

I was going to post some more progress screenshots tonight but i thought i would spend a few hours fixing up the map the best i can, or as it turns out, the best my computer can.

Before this final version, the map was alot larger, just in surface area.

------------------------------------------------------------
Solar Island v1
Theme: Combine/Futuristic

Features
  • 3D Skybox
  • Refineries inside 3D skybox.
  • Large cables.
  • Orbital Charging Device :smt004
  • HDR Sky/Lights.
  • Distant Mountains
  • Lots of detail

------------------------------------------------------------

I had alot of compiles not work tonight because of too much visdata.
Transfer lists were over 1.5 gig, and i only have 2gb ram. If i had more ram i might be able to add more detail, but the bsp is already 74mb, and i tried adding more, but i still get the same compile errors from using too much ram during vrad.exe. :?

For a first entry in anything like this, come to think of it, any design competition at all, i think i've done alright.

Peace :-)

Wow, looks awesome!

By the way, phott, k-dawg etc, I cant allow animated pictures, sorry :) for the same reason I don't allow video entries in the standard battle (but see below): kinda gives an unfair edge. Everyone needs to be on more or less the same 'platform': animations/video puts people into a different class of working, and I don't think enough people would be willing to do the extra work needed. Although, as I've said in the past, if some people want to, I'd be more than willing to allow video entries if there were a few people interested, and they could have a separate vote.

But anyway, welcome to the battles!

|FRITZ| wrote:alright here is my wip.. pretty much done, besides the skybox that looks purple on account of the hdr. I might add some stars to the sky as well. Im kind of out of ideas for extra detail. so if you got any suggestions or crits lets hear them. :smt006

Fritz that looks amazing. I love the purple sky and the barn. The moon looks great also although I think there's a bit of a tangent between the rockets and the moon.

It sort of looks like a reconnaissance mission where the blue team suddenly comes out of the water, takes out the two red guards by the door and quietly make their way into the red barn, housing some secret documents/intel. Really cool.

Me thinks more people need to make outdoor maps at night like this. I really get the feeling of moonlight hitting the surroundings, and nothing looks too dark or bright. Looks great man, I love the color.
