Yay, I finally have a day off! I would advise everyone to NOT work retail during the holidays!

I spent most of the time trying to figure out how to make those textures "glow". This is obviously early but I am trying to base it on an ice hotel.

Needs fog, lighting and details, I like the idea though :)

Sorry for double post...
Current WIP, no Christmas feeling yet, but that will be the last thing I'm going to add ;)

Almost all textures are custom-made!
EDIT: Cubeupload seems to have some problems so I uploaded the pic again on tinypic...

Pretty close to final images here. Only three will be chosen of course.

The idea is when you play this you start in this cold industrial environment and you can see some of this Christmas tree but then if you explore a tiny bit you find a way up to a room above in a building and have a nice view of the decorated Christmas tree highlighting the winter landscape. To me, winter has always been about Christmas while the time afterward being like some limbo time waiting for spring to get here. To this day I still associate snow with Christmas so if you see my images and are mostly like "well that's just a snowy scene" heh well it means more to me. Oddly enough, this is almost like an ideal sort of scenario or setting to me for a Christmas.

The name for this is "The Worker's Christmas"

There's also a lake behind the Christmas tree that symbolizes nothing but just looks awesome to me.

If there's any interest I'll finish a "playable" version to download at about when the battle's done. :-)

Screenshot #1, #2 and #5 are amazing, especially #2.

Without a word of a lie, thumbnail #2 is the best thumbnail for a source map i've ever seen.
It's a shame that the trees aren't a higher quality, i know that can't be helped in this case but the aliasing ruins the fullscreen version :/

I guess you have to grow up in a snowy environment to be able to grasp the terrain and geometry like you have done there.

I take my hat off to you sir :-)

B.t.w it looks like a Russian Power Plant in the middle of Christmas, which looks awesome :D

By any chance, are you a photographer?

I made a skybox using vue6, its so eazy to use... I Photoshopped the moon in (not a big deal)
but I have a question, the sky is uber bright in game with HDR on... with a normal sky its no problem because it is supposed to be the sun... but this is a night sky.. so I wonder is there anyway to reduce this effect?
I always thought this effect was caused by this line in the vmf
Code: Select all
"$hdrbasetexture"

but I left it out and I stil see the bright hdr effect :(

http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki ... x_Creation

When creating the hdr texture have the bright areas slightly darker and it should look fine!
Hope it works ;-)

Current WIP, (I still have to add the good 'ol X-mas spirit to the place, and snow etc) and is it OK to enter both this battle and Srredfire's battle, or do I have to choose one?

You need cubemaps ;-)
Entering both battles won't be a problem as long as the entry in this battle fits our theme, and that shouldn't be too hard... :D

Why would I need cubemaps, I already have a lot of them in my map, if you are saying that the windows are reflecting to hard; that's caused by the specular I gave it, I still have to adjust them...
