I think that'd be a good idea. I was planning on doing something like that.

Might have to hear from Mr. 904 about this, ey.

It'll be perfectly fine if you write a few lines explaining your interpretation of the theme. However, this is a map-battle and the theme should be clear through the screenshots alone. Let's just wait until the finals are in.

Thanks for the advice. By the way, do you guys know if there's any way I could get a citizen model to lie on that bed motionless? Because if I assign it to any entity other than the actual NPC_citizen than it won't show up but as an NPC_citizen it tries and follows me around.

Thanks,
Deathbagel

Under "flags" on the npc_citizen properties you can set it to ignore the player and all kinds of stuff required for the npc to keep in place.

Use a scripted sequence. There are a few lying down animations. I can write how to do it if you don't know.

OK, thanks, I can figure that out. Lucky for me I've already found the animation I want!

I don't think everyone really has a concept... I for example searched for some reference pictures and started mapping based on the pictures.

But how does your scene show abandonment?

The spec said this:
Which is the act of abandoning, can be someplace or someone (!). Show us abandonment, the reasons, what is being abandoned and why, and how did this happen? Try to evoke an emotion. To help you: make it personal, what happens if you have to leave all you've got behind? What happens to you when you are abandoned?

Would be good if people could explain their scene to answer those questions.

I was gonna make a scene with a mother walking away from her child, but I decided not to bother...

I prolly could've stolen some votes with that. :(

So are we allowed to work some magic on an old scene and enter it rather than starting another from scratch?

Re-phrase: Would other contestants mind if i entered something i had been working on for a while?

Ive got a question, when i compile in HDR sometimes when it comes to start the Vrad.exe for the second time Windows reports that its locked and of course vrad crashes before it begins. After the crash is it possible to run only the HDR lighting process and keep all the other data in the bsp and have it run successfully.

I might try something as well, I’ve been thinking about a few possibilities. Abandon seems like such a simple topic but alas, I can't seem to figure out what I would like to do. I'll start on something right now and see what happens.

Most of the elevators I've seen have some kind of waist high railing on each wall maybe that will add some clutter to interior of the elevator. Also if you do a screen from the outside hall looking into the elevator try adding some maintenance lights in the shaft and perhaps some cables?

Just a thought :-)
As the radioactive ashes descend as dark snowflakes upon the smoldering ruins of civilization, it will be man’s compelling need to create destruction and war which will subconsciously fuel his ambition to rebuild.

If nobody objects, I guess it's ok. But we do have a rule that does not allow prior work (within our ability to verify anyway, so if it has been sitting on your harddrive and has never been released or shown, it's not verifiable).
Obviously the idea of this rule is, that if you have already made something that fits, it would give you a great advantage over others who start from scratch. So try to keep that in mind and try to create original stuff (new stuff preferably).

@Phott: IneptGuard just mentioned what I thought. Also, elevators often have some sort of mirror, I guess to make the it look larger and relief the claustrophobic people.

@IneptGuard
I tried the railings from the beginning but were never happy with the result, might as well try again. ^^ I don't think I'll have any final screenshot containing the part where you can see into the elevator, I'm not sure. But thanks alot for the feedback, allways appreciated!

EDIT:
Yeah, I thought of faking a mirror effect by adding another elevator next to it with some kind of glass or so.

So I was wondering... could you pleeeeeeeease tell us the settings you have for the light_environment in that map?
It's quite simple really. I want to be a professional level designer. I want this to be my job.
