Bollocks. I was going to disprove that statement until I read my dictionary :-D

I better go song hunting to replace my current one

I would consider an instrumental a song... I guess 904 makes the rules though.

Guess what I learned today?

Instrumental: Just instruments
Song: Vocals and instruments
A cappella: Just vocals
And for the all around term, "Musical Composition"

So there goes 95% of the musical compositions I'd want to use.

Drats.

I have an idea for this. Unfortunately, I just can't get Face Poser to work, nor do I have any experience with it. Oh well. Maybe next time.

Shouldn't be that hard to guess the band I'm going for.

Infected Mushroom possibly?

I dunno if I'll even enter this contest. I hardly ever do participate in them since I've had my mapping vitality drained for about a year now. There doesn't seem to be any recovery from it either.

If I were to map a song, it would either be something I myself made, something from Rain Crow (since he's my favorite electronic artist), or something from Heaven Shall Burn (since they're my favorite band).

Something like that...

I could see some debate coming about this. Does a piece of music HAVE to have lyrics to be considered a "song"? I mean I myself would and do say some of my favorite songs are pieces without lyrics. But perhaps I've been wrong my entire life. Most everyone I know would consider a song just a piece of music in general.

So if a song has lyrics, what is an instrumental? Instrumental is almost a term of genre, you know? Not really a generalized terminology. So if I liked a "song", or whatever that had no lyrics, what would I say?

"Man I love this ____!"

Fill in the blank, because I'm curious.

On the down side, this means no classical music could be used - Vivaldi would be pretty good for a Hammer seen.

On the up side, this means no rap...there's no way that counts as singing ;)

"I'm rappin' all day and I'm rappin' all night..." <-- 20 points to whoever knows what that's from.

When I make a piece of music, I always call it a "song" but there is no lyrics in it. I would say a song is any kind of piece of music, but that's just me.

Merriam-Webster dictionary: Song - a short musical composition of words and music.
yourdictionary.com: Song - a piece of music sung or composed for singing.
wordnetweb.princeton.edu: Song - a short musical composition with words.
thefreedictionary.com: Song - A brief composition written or adapted for singing.

Therefore:
Notes + melody + words = song.
Notes + melody - words = music.

Of course there is always bird song, if someone wanted to map a giant bird :smt023

Have to do a bit better than that ;) what is it from, not who is it by.
