First some notes.
- The end of last year and the start of this year were a bit rocky for me, which resulted in me screwing up the schedule and dumping the responsibility for the map battles on Major Banter. That was not how it was supposed to be, so I apologize to all of you and especially to Major.
- I'm going back to the schedule I maintained for the most part of 2009, which means battles will start on the 1st of the month, will last for about three to three and a half weeks, followed by roughly a week of voting. So make a note in your calendar: 1st of the month -> check for new a map battle.
- To get back on track I started a theme poll, my goal is to do this on a regular basis, but not necessarily before every battle.
- Also: resurrection of the scoring system, Jest@ used to maintain some intricate Excel sheet, after which I tried to mimic that, but that was too cumbersome to do and became stale. I'm now preparing a DB with a little php frontend so it'll be easier for me to keep scores.
And now on to the theme.
The poll thread generated some interesting discussion with regard to the City Streets and Panorama themes. Based on that discussion, the theme will be:
If you had your mind set on city street, go ahead, make it a city/street, but create a panorama. If you had your mind set on something historical (or alternative), be my guest, there's plenty to think of. For those that are into the film noir side of things: if you do it, it' better be good. In any case it has to conform to the theme Panorama.
Goal
Make a map in an official Valve Source engine game that fits the given theme, make it as visually pleasing as you can, it does not have to be playable.
Deadline
The deadline for this battle is set on Sunday July 25th. The battle will be closed at 22:00 GMT that day. For a conversion of the the closing time to your own location, check this.
Basic Rules
- Three final screenshots max
- Since the theme is panorama, it's allowed to combine 3 screenshots into one panorama. It is not a requirement to do so.
- You should use an official Valve Source engine game
- Custom content is more than welcome
Full rules
You can find the full rules here. If you've got any questions about the theme, the rules or the battles in general, either post in this thread or PM me (904).
Good luck!
About three weeks time to come up with some creative stuff, so good luck and get mapping!
Please post W.I.P. shots and don't forget to mark your final screenshots.
