Is it flush in hammer? For the elevator in the interlopers map I used a small inviable brush as the func_tracktrain and made all the visible brushes a func_brush parented to the train. This insures that the train will spawn in the correct spot on your path_track and should make it flush with the floor.

Took a quick shot to show off something. It's unfortunately in Hammer.

That's an outside area (obviously), not my lair. Have no bloody clue what my lair is going to look like. I have no ideas. All I know is it's built under that part of the city and you get to it through an apartment down a spastic lift.

Why so much work for something that is only going to be images?

It's a beauty contest, not a functionality contest...

My plan was to have one image showing the city, then in the apartment going to the spastic lift, and finally the lair. I think I'll just get to work on the lair today sometime and nothing else. I'm sure I can find something to build.

Weird, i was actually going with a similar style...
Both in the taking of pictures and mine has a prominent elevator!

So lets see... Has the Plague been in you're head or has The Doctor been in mine....

So I started to sketch out mine, then I realized I was more or less making the throne room from Episode 6.

Still might make it though.
It's quite simple really. I want to be a professional level designer. I want this to be my job.

I've only participated in one battle before and it was a fiasco, but today I actually came up with a rather good idea for this one. But first I need to know: I'm not as proficient in English as I like to think, so when you say lair, is that a synonym for headquarters? I'm wondering because most here seems to map desolate, secluded, dark places, not really places I would prefer to be my HQ. Would it be impossible to map, say, an island? Like some sort of James Bond thing, located on a private island in the Pacific, with its own airport and a small army. Or does it have to be Batcave-like, a hidden, dark and rather unpleasant place? And do I have to map the interior, or can it be exterior-only?

Your island idea sounds fine, its YOUR lair, doesn't matter what everyone else does for their lair.

Lair simply means the place you sit mull over your plans for world domination - so if you like to do that on a pacific island, kudos, you have more style than Batman.

What you could try to do is just make the elevator stationary in one picture, and duplicate the elevator in another. For instance: Have your elevator at ground level, and have another one in the lair in the same elevator shaft. No one would be able to tell that the elevator is duplicated and doesn't work, because these aren't movies or gifs. And when I mean "dublicated", I don't mean take one picture and set it up for another...literally have two.

As far as making an explanation: you can say some psychedelic quantum physics bull, or that the elevators recede into the wall. But that's not the case, as it's not really a working map. Though I do applaud you for putting forth the extra effort to make it work right.

Great minds think alike. (That's what I always say when something of that nature happens to me, it compliments both parties).

Windlab put it pretty well. A lair is much like an HQ....for "bad guys" (also known as villians).

Now, the reason you see most of these pictures as dark, demonic, gloomy, or what-have-you, is because the villains are usually depicted that way, as is their lair. You can have a happy lair, and call the villain either crazy or happy, but that would just be a creative twist on the theme. So really, it makes sense to have a gloomy place.

As far as exterior or interior: I'm sure people would like to see both, but just provide what you can. As long as it shows the "lair" in any sort of the word it's good to go. :smt023 An Island is a pretty good place for one, lots of these bad guys have islands they essentially own. Usually uncharted islands. I say go for it.
