Map Battle 4: The Ramp

Postby BaRRaKID on Sat Jul 30, 2005 6:21 pm

The 4th map battle is here. Hope you people dont complain as much as last time about the theme.

So this week we have a nice Half-Pipe for you guys. I imagine must of you picking up Tony Hawk pro skater game right now for ideas :P

Also we got back to using a template, and this time we will have some rules to how much you can change it.

Image

Download the template here

Now the rules:

- The template must be used in the map. You are allowed to change the textures, and model used in the template, but not the shape.

- You can only post 3 screenshots, and you can only submit one map.

- When posting your screenshots, always explain if they are final or still WIP

- Additional mods like bloom mod and garrys's mod CAN'T be used, only hl2, hl2dm and CS:S are allowed

- You cant use any extra software(like photoshop for example) to make your screenhosts look better. Of course usual changes like resizing, croping, or adding your name on the screenies are allowed

- You can use whatever custom content you want

- The maps are judged according to their quality, so make them look the best you can

- The maps dont need to be playable

Any screenshot that doesnt follow this rules wont be acepted untill the author changes it to fit the above rules.

The battle ends at the 13th of august around midnight GMT. all that its left to say is, good luck and...

Gentleman start your hammers!

Considering i just spent the last 2 years designing ramps with Gravity ramps i should be able to get into this.

Ok i'm gonna go for it.

Oh and before any of you say "damnt his is a stupid topic there is nothing you can do with a ramp because a ramp is a ramp" You are dead wrong you should see what some of the guys over at gravity come out with.

there was a gravity shop near where i live that just got bought out.

I'm having trouble thinking of ways to be original with the ramp. Maybe... a loading ramp? Shit I don't know. Oh wait, we have to use the template.

About the photoshop rule... you say we can't use bloom, but people could fake it in PS. I think it's a bad rule and we shouldn't be allowed to photoshop it. Just resize/crop.

cs_boardslide anyone?

Not sure how you could use it as a loading ramp, its not just any old ramp, its a half pipe :\ Still considering whether or not to enter this one, not because of the theme of this one, just because of other commitments. We'll see.

My idea so far: Use the half-pipe as part of a dry-dock in which a ship is being built.
Just throwing this out there/claiming it.

haha... misquoted.

can't participate this time, but my first thought was a huge, futuristic tube of some sort. Half pipe + upside down halfpipe + combine textures = futuristic hovercar tunnel of some sort?

see, there's no orignal idea you can do with just the ramp itself, you have to multiply it or something.
My first idea was to make a tunnel also...
