I think by origionality they mean "not just used as a ramp"

I thought the dry dock was an outstanding idea for a map , but I had to go with Generalvivi for creating so many custom textures that all flowed seamlessly , giving not only a real sense of harmony but taking the user out of the 'half-life 2' feel that maps using hl2 textures all have

Thats why I wish I could vote for a first second and third :\

I would vote for Vivi but have decided not to vote for anyones. Vivi's looks the best but how would it look without the custom textures? I think the textures help it out and makes the map look really cool, this however can cause a bit of an unbalance for those who can't texture for shit (including myself :lol: ). I think that this time it should slide but the rest of the map challenges should use the in-game textures only. This will help keep it a bit more fair for those entering.

Mapping, texturing and modelling all go hand in hand now. Need to diversify i'm afraid.

Apparantly, it's not that good.

Don't care, really. I just participated for fun. My map sucks, but I had fun making it, so that's really all that matters.

Texturing goes hand in hand with mapping ...

And not only that , if vivi made custom textures and still made a crappy map , he wouldnt win . Hes didnt get my vote because he made custom textures, but the custom textures help . They show a little extra work.

AND not only that , but a lot of his custom textures wern't things that would require a professional to do ... for example , he put the time in to make logos and picture decals to hang on the walls of his room ... thats something that everyone should be able to do . Its not like it takes a lot of normal map work and training in image specularity or any materials skills at ALL ... its just taking the TIME to browse the internet / take pictures of decals you want in your levels and throw them into your level.

If you cant make the simplist of textures , which basically consists of a photoshop plugin and editing one text file (or , if you dont have photoshop that using the tools hammer provided) than shame on you as a half life mapper

As for models , if someone manages to pull off a model or two in his or her level, thats great . It would be a great enhancement . But a few models arent going to make or break a map ... and you do need to respect the time that it takes to make them ...

i'm getting tired of all this crap.. do you guys have anything else to complain about?

seriouslly, next thing you know you will be asknig me to not allow poeple to use the clip tool, or lights in the maps. This is a stupid discution, and I'll delete anymore posts regarding this. I always encoraged people to make their own costum textures and models for the maps for one simply reason, the battles where made so that people could imporve their skills, and texturing and modelling skills are requeired to make decent maps.

You people dont understand that all this discutions just make the battles worst, since poeple start loosing interest on them. Plese stop all this, like i said milions of times before, if you have any complain/sugestion send me a pm.

enough for now, poll closed. See you guys next battle
