Portfolios

Postby DeathProdigy on Tue Dec 19, 2006 9:25 pm

i was thinking, in the forums, have a portfolio section on the forums. Each member gets to make a thread or "portfolio" just with their user name as the title. and in the thread/portfolio the users can link to their existing external portfolio or use the thread they created as their portfolio by posting pictures, screens, descriptions etc. that way mod workers/people hiring, can flick through the forum, look at peoples work all in one place, giving them a larger community to choose from, and giving the budding mappers/designers/artists here more exposure.

so, what do you guys think of it?

This is a neat idea, do you think it would be worth stopping people from replying to it? Or would people like that.

Was just wondering if they got spammed up with crap or pointless "OMG SHIT MAP" comments it might not look all that great.

Over to you..

Yeah, a Personal Showcase or Portfolios subsection, that's really neat. Dunno how you'd stop individual users making more than one thread though, blinkeh, does your phpbb skillz0rs allow that?

I think spam comments shouldn't be too much of a worry, cos people can just edit their top post and hence their additions or whatever wont get swamped by spam. It still might not look good, but now we've got Report Posts back, hopefully people wont bother posting too much crap.

There is a danger people would just turn their portfolio thread into their own personal website, though. Guess only moderation can prevent that.

LOL, I stop by this thread cause I thought someone wanted feedback on there portfolios.

I think this a great idea, but it's kinda like Blink paying for us to show off our work so others can get a job.

You can always post rules for post, if broken, delete it.

Could turn into a crazy blog service.

I think it's a great idea though, a new section of the forums, where-in only one group can make threads, the 'approved group.' Either make a seperate thread to apply or PM a mod to ask to have a portfolio, so the board isn't spammed.

I also like this idea, good stuff.

I'll look into how it can work and try to sort something out.

maybe set it up as a semi-forum/semi-website thing...micro-hosting or something :D severely limited space (like, 1 meg, images are kept offsite) and some basic HTML, or customisation of templates, allowed.
