Prefabs are used less than carve, so I don't think there's need for a new subforum. :)

I use prefabs for light model/light entity/spotlight/blocklight combinations, but that's about it.

Ok, I'm re-entering this thread. Firstly, one of the greatest sources, sourceprefabs.com, has ended, due to spamming and flaming of the site. So, there's probably a large community now, looking for a new home to find prefabs at. We could quite easily compete with fpsbanana, we have a lot more succesful community, and more skilled mappers! I finished my oil truck, and if you allow us a prefabs seciton, you can expect more members, and more downloadable content, and lots of happy people... :-D

We could do with a section, even if it was as little used as the design section... Consider having prefabs of nearly every prop u could think of. For example, right now I'm looking for a prefab of an oil tanker, that will explode if the oil body container takes 300 hits. I'm currently working on my own, using a repaired front truck piece, and making the oil contianer myself. This is just an example, there should also be a child forum with the requests bit.

Prefabs have become less popular over the past 8 years.

Prefabs are just things you've made before, like you make a whole new level, put only the item you want in the prefab in it, make sure it is center and on the line, then save to sourcesdk/bin/prefabs.

I made one for a prefect street curve for intersections and such.

Prefabs are getting more popular mate! Now more then ever! Sites like sourceprefabs.com saw the success of that, and the reason it closed down, is not because of low popularity, but idiotic noobs, with extremely large glasses, and bad hairdoes, mkaing a muck up of everything like they usually do! We really need this section, and it couldn't really hurt too make it could it? I mean, whats the worst thing that could possibly happen because of it? There's no negative side! :D

Well, there were litterly hundreds of thousands of prefabs for HL1 out there, not so for HL2.

Although I'll admit Jman's street curve is something that could save everyone alot of time :D

I could see why other people could want dl'able prefabs, as it does save time. Then again, I cant recall thinking "Aw, I would really like a [insert prefab] right now."

When I need prefabs I just make them myself.

And what if you're having problems making them? What if you couldn't achieve the level of design you wanted too? Then you would want someone too help do it for you? Surely?

Yeh, I sometimes feel like that rooster, I've only really used them once or twice, but they were for joke maps I made on boring afternoons. Serious maps, people would very rarely use prefabs for, but we can learn a lot from each others mistakes. Also, I really am stuck on something else now. I need a prefab of a garage door, that will slide upwards. I'm currently forced to use a func_train. Also, does anyone know what the roller prop is above the garage door that te gate seems too roll into? :?

YokaI wrote:I believe valve uses a prefab for some basic things such as the TVs that can be ripped off or the magnet entities and such. I wouldn't say that they use them all the time though.

Maybe we should (I would volunteer)create prefabs or basic entity/model/brush setups for newer mappers to look at and try to reproduce.
I think this is a good idea. Anything that makes content creation more accessible to newbies is a positive thing.

With the exception of Make Hollow (for the most part), lol.
