Tutorials Point system

Postby serpent666 on Tue Jan 16, 2007 12:41 pm

i literally just had this brainwave while i was in the bathroom :)

i thought it would be a good idea if we get rewarded somehow for successfully completing a tutorial.

so i.e: just say i read the 3d skybox tutorial, and it worked, then i would goto a checklist and check that off
knowing that i can do it, and for each tutorial you have checked off you get some sort of reward, i.e: postcount or something

the only major flaw i see in the points part, is people cheating by ticking everything, and to provide evidence of your work would require filespace & someone actually willing to look through the examples :P

yeh, screw the points part but i like my checklist idea for tutorials, and then you could look at other people and see what they know etc

was the toilet actually, you might want to look at adjusting your hidden camera spots

anyway what im saying is that there should be a page for each user that involves a checklist with every single tutorial title on it, so if a user completely finishes and understands one of the tutorials, they check it off

and then each user should be able to look at other users
check list to see what knowledge they know of hammer or modeling etc

That's an interesting idea! I love it. Though it would be easy to cheat..

True. And not many people would care. And it would require some coding.

Instead of points or whatever for reading the tuts for people that make tuts should have a special bar like the people that pay money to this site i just dont see the point in putting points for reading

well its not just about the reading
its about if you understand how to do it
so really i can safely say that i could tick everything to do with hammer except for optimization and soundscapes

and i do agree, it would be easy to cheat, any ideas on how that could be stopped?

as for people not caring perhaps there could be a reward at the end, i.e: if you complete the entire hammer section you get a hammer award that will go under your name on the left side <--

and same thing for the model section, you will get a modeling award

i don't like the idea mainly because many of the tutorials are straight forward; meaning most competent mappers would not need to work through a lot of the tutorials.

a points system for people who take the time to write and submit decent tutorials on the other hand; that would make for a more interesting point system i think

We could have a system sorta like what they have at spiked humor where people can vote for post if there useless you put a - and if there good post then its a + or some sorta

It would better to just to give a tag below their name when someone submits a tut. But then the site would get filled up with stupid tuts.

It would just be better to keep things how they are and avoid doing something pointless other than to flex epeen.

Besides, we all know the true length of epeen is join date. :P

Well hopefully tuts are to be verified by the moderators before it's posted. I hope there's that kind of discipline around here.
Should be done just as the articles on the quite dead VERC. You submit and article and the moderators judge whether it's good enough or not.

Maybe a status to show what you like to do modding-wise.

If your a modeler...Status = Modeler

Would be nice for people outside of the community to come in and know who does what.
