Interlopers Podcast

Well if we had the right content it could indeed work, but we'd have to be strict enough to take a step back and see if it is sounding like crap or not.

I also don't think weekly would work, it's hard for me to be around weekly and I imagine everyone else, plus you may exhaust your options of things to discuss.

I'm all for giving this testcast a try, if it sounds cool we can see how it might be recieved for future proper ones but we don't want it to be 20 mins of silly rambling that makes every listener ignite their ears.

I also have no idea how you create or record podcasts because I don't really listen to any.

I think this is great stuff mate.

Monthly or fortnightly would be better then weekly. It would be close enough for people to want to subscribe but weekly youy meet a few problems.

Time management. Remember your dad may be a pro but we're just part timers on a mapping community.

Content. The more time between podcasts the more content you have to talk about. weekly you can only talk about a limited set and some of that will probably be crap. With a longer time we can pick and choose what we want to talk about. Obviously you don't want it to be too large a gap between casts.

I would be happy to help if you need it. These days i'm more about modelling and art then I am mapping but i've worked on a lot of stuff and can hopefully bring something to this.

There is definatly an un-tapped 'market' here - so good on you Slick for getting it on the way.

I think what a few people overlooked at the begining of the thread is that this will appeal to the whole modding community and won't (shouldn't) be an Interlopers focussed affair. If you only highlight whats going on in the Interlopers world, then they'll be copy-cat podcasts within weeks. So although it may be good to highlight a few top threads (although it may sound a bit boring), we would need to make sure we both connect to, and appeal to other communities.

Although as the Interlopers brand name is being used to help push the podcast it would be rude not give something back. :)

I think one really great feature would be a sort of 'View the Review!'. The podcast shouldn't be limited to an audio only experience. It could be released as a pack that could include a small trailer, or an article, or a few annotated screen shots. So while the 'hosts' could be discussing an awesome design feature or simple tip, people can see exactly what they mean by looking at the relevant screen shot.

Obviously thats just simple idea that would need to be developed further, but hopefully you can see what im getting at with it. I'll be back later with more fun!

So yeah - great idea. I'd definatly be up for helping with this in any way I can, whether it actually being on the podcast or helping behind the scenes to collect up and develop ideas/content.

I said before it's a great idea but I think it needs a lot more thought on the format and content, is it going to be like a news program, a talk program, a round table discussion? Will it be recorded live with different people in one segment and then edited before made available, or will there be individual people in individual segments?

Personnaly, I think a mulit-person round table of various things, issues, etc. would be cool for a big part of the show but I'm sure would be difficult to do (I have no idea how it would be done).

Should there be a "table of contents" in the beginning, like on a news program where they describe what will happen?

Thread news could be limited to top 3 whatevers in the second or third segment (don't want the first thing non-interlopers to here be "in the random thread Blink posted another picture of his shiny baldness".)

Monthly would be a good stat I suppose, but I think bi-weekly would be better. Seems to me that there is prolly enough to talk about for a 10-20 minute thingy bi0weekly, plus you don't want people forgetting about it.

podcast is just a fancy word for an audio file of some douche talking that apple made up to pretend like they invented something

Surely you'd just record it over Skype (I think Slick mentioned that previously) - and then Slick can go away to make sure its edited up all fine and dandy.

And you wouldn't need a 'table of contents' per se. You'd just say something along the lines of:

"Today we'll be looking at 'Item 1', 'Item 2' and 'Item 3' before rounding it off with a quick overview of whats hot on Interlopers this month" - or something to that effect. Nothing too formal, but its nice to have an introduction to the show.

We'd want one or two regular features other than the standard news round up etc. Something a bit different. As modding, mapping etc is a very visual affair it would suit the idea I proposed earlier about including other things in a podcast 'pack'. So we could offer textures, models or an awesome map. So if we get someone on the show, we could showcase their work along with the podcast. Its always nice to help promote some of the hard working members of the community.

Obviously that could all be kept seperate (by telling people that the maps are featured on the site or something) but I believe its a unique feature that would appeal to the audience.

I'm glad everybody is getting into this. I would like to point out that I am in no way a professional in this affair, I just have access to one.

We can never really say what the format is, I think we will find out how we really tick and in the first few shows it will end up sticking in stone.

I argee with the fortnight/Bi-weekly idea.

The podcast won't be totally about mapping, it will be a general modding and gamer podcast. If you have a mic it would be great if you could join in. Getting sombody from a different area of profession would be great.

As Bema said, it will be recorded over skype. Before we start each podcast we will have a general disscussion session whilst I set up. This will allow us to warm up to eachother and not be hesitent in the actual recording.

The "testcast" will, as stated be a test. Now because of this it would be very appriciated if anybody could PM me any specific ideas we could use. For example, you could create a mock-up question we can play on the air. Also it will be not be of the same quality as the full thing.

Hehe, yeah. I think we've got a good idea of what we'll have in the first show. Thanks for the input lads.

As said on another day I'm going to prepare for in, make some intro music or something and then after this week we will hopefully get some time to record.

=)

Keep posting ideas in here though.

You do know that saying that only intrigues us more into hearing your voice? :)

I completely agree with that. :-D

However, I would like to help out. I was considering starting a radio on FPSB, but I also wanted an hour long main show every 3 days in the radio, which would then be saved as a podcast. There would also be shows inbetween such as clan based shows, mod of the week, etc, etc.

If you want me on, are at all interesed, drop me a message. I'll try to get back to you as soon as possible.
