There is no way we're adding a shout box, it's not the 90s ;)

What would b e nice is if Valve opened up the Steam community more so that we could integrate that more into the site. Unfortunately their API is incredibly limited.

I wouldnt trust any site with the login data allowing me to chat on steam via a site.
That being said, the only 'steamy' thing that might be nice to add is a steamid link like the email and website option.
What else could anyone look for? A who-of-my-friends is online and what are they doing? That's easy to implement as long as Blink is running Windows and can set up php to be able to call dlls (these basic api calls are exposed through steam in code). In fact, it would seen the api also exposes methods to send messages and invite people to lobbies (code comments call it a chat room). It could be as simple as setting a steam username and interlopers automatically invites you to an 'interlopers' steam group. You can then send steam messages to everyone in that chat.

Al it would take is a new interlopers steam account (doesnt need any games at all, so an empty steam account), so you dont have to enter any login data as long as the one you want to talk to is connected to the interlopers steam account.

Im not sure if this is all legal though.

The +1 option simply opens Lopers to a broader audience by having threads or tuts show up on Google+.
The idea behind the shoutbox is solely for socializing. I don't see how it relates to the 90s. It's meant to spice things up a bit.

Oh, you mean that +1 icon next to the name in Google? That sounds alright.

I think it just ranks up the page, so that your Google+ friends see it, or something.

That is rather annoying.... Maybe exclude members from the search time limit that have more than a set amount of posts? Less likely to be abused then.

Have altered the member search interval limit from 15 seconds to 5 seconds. That should make life a bit easier I hope.

Tutorials section could have a tree view or some such thing to make it easier to see all the tutorials at once.
Automatically detect entity names in people's posts and link them to the vdc page.

Specialized forum post template for under construction and showcase. Something like you did with portfolios and tutorials? You could help people make their work look good! There is no standardization in the content forums. This is something other sites, especially ones that have download databases, do well. Look at what they do. A stream on the front page of showcase threads showing new work with images taken from the post would be nice. The map spotlight panel is a nice thing but doesn't change much or show what people are up to.

Under construction could use feedback tools like votes/ratings/multi-question polls the author can update and archive that show up on each page. A simple tool to draw on top of someone's screenshots and repost (circle the broken thing).

Steam uses openid which I think is meant to solve that problem?

Even if a chat window is a bad idea there are still cool things you could do with that. Let people put their steam workshop on the left bar under their name for example. Or help them post an image that is hosted on their steam cloud.

They are just ideas, and your image is broken for me lol. Your image probably wouldn't be broken if all you had to do was browse your libraries thumbnails in the side bar of interlopers and click on the image you want.
I don't really know what steam login lets programmers or web designers do.

edit: your image isn't broken anymore

The ability to just quote highlighted text (rather than an entire post) would be good. I'm sure it's a feature I've seen on phpBB boards before. On a similar note, would it be possible to automatically take images out of quotes, for those occasions (albeit few and far between) when some numpty quotes a post containing 5 million pictures just to say "Cool" underneath?
