Map downloads or map pack

Postby compy905 on Thu Jul 28, 2005 6:58 pm

After seeing the latest map battle, I think there should be a Map downloads section with Interloper maps only. I know most of the maps are designed for a few screenshots, but maybe that will encourage the mappers to complete them and then there could be a best of the map battle's map pack. Maybe everyone could vote on what maps should be in the map pack.
Their first album was better.

If people are going to make them so they are playable, the construction time of the maps severely increases, which defies the whole point.

He said more than what you reflected on, Shadow.

But... An interlopers map download section? Sounds rather dull.

We (As in Blink) already provide hosting for a few selected good maps.

I'm not saying that for the map battles the maps have to be complete. I'm saying that after the map battles if the mappers completed the maps and released them in an Interlopers map packs or have a map of the week voted on by us.

You'd need to contact the various authors, their work belongs to them.

Well if the map authors are okay with it that would be sweet. Do any fo the map authors have a problem with that? We should start a list of map authors who are willing to do it.

Interlopers map pack wouldnt work the best cause we all map for multiple games. Unlike going to CS nation and starting a mappack... :P Right now im working on a ZP map then im moving onto CS or HO (either one, havent chosen yet)

I'm pretty sure everyone here know how to unzip different maps into different mods.

But there's different entities, old chap.

It's a good idea, a download section would be good tbh.

There's like 9 maps there, and 5 of those are questionable. I mean a download section that we could post shit on and The mods regulate what goes on. Say if it meets certain requirements, but you'll find maps that don't look that pretty but play amazingly - like (god forbid I mention the name) dust.

As we all should know, that takes up a hella lot of server space, to not only post images on but to allow people to post on the site itself? Sense this isnt a "free web" type disign, it would take up space even to add new forum catagory. Seeing as Blink is paying for the server alone, its quite questionable to demand more downloads. Though, if it were a forum you need, Then you could just link the map names to certain forums in a hidden section of the forums called (Downloads) allowing anyone to reply but not to post new topics. Though, still, we should take into consideration the amount of space Blink has to pay for already.

Sorry if this doesnt seem to answer the question of the post, though there needs to be some sort of donations coming in before we can dream of a section as big as downloading. Uses up a lot on bandwith rather than what we use now. er, so i think, up to what blink says. I've seen this suggestion many of times before.

If you want map downloads visit Interlopers' sister site, http://www.cs-maps.org which also contains HL2 maps.

And for your information that site uses about 500 gig a month in bandwidth, and with the increasing map file sizes, is the reason we aren't doing that.
