so you have invisible props? heres how to fix it.

Any aspects of level design for the Source engine.

sometimes the compile doesnt delete them, but the hl console does, so check that too

whats the command in the console that "deletes" props? Also, why would it do so without you telling it to?

Ok excelent i have found the problem in the compile process, it says

Error! To use model "./models/props_c17/door01_left.mdl" with prop_static, it must be compiled with $staticprop!

what exactly does that mean and please tell me what i have to do to fix that.

to all you people who say fade distances are useless : youre wrong. this bumps up your FPS alot. look at the official maps - they use it. if it was useless they wouldnt have added it.

zombie is wrong. edit the model's qc file to have $staticprop in it.

zombie is not wrong. he is never wrong. its stupid to recompile a model to use it as a static if you can do it so much easier.

To avoid accidentally moving the visibility sphere when you place props, go to View/Show Helpers and uncheck it. But it can be a useful feature for spotlights so turn it on if you need it then.

Hm, for some objects like sinks and valves it works but toilets and cabinets won't work unless it's a prop_physic, but I want them to be prop_static. :(

i'm a total noob when it comes to mapping and stuff and this site has been a great resource - and as far as I'm concerned, there are no stupid or lame questions as long as there are folks like me who walk into this knowing *nothing*
I'm talented at other things and often forget that other folks' skill set isn't quite as advanced as mine - it's humbling to be on the other side.
and as for static/dynamic props, I'm *Still* trying to put a list together so i know which are which (apart from the more obvious ones).
thanks in advance to everyone for their tutorials/stickies, etc...this site is great!
